I was curious as to what you guys thought of me making some heros who fly and maybe some who hover (btw, hovering is just an art, like the standard sorceress, it does not mean extra mobility).

hmmm the flying heroes would be very original.
i dont know any game with flying heroes but is it possible to balance that?

Confusement

It depends upon the type of balancing you are talking about. Do you mean limit their mobility? Lower stats? Weaker attacks? Weaker armour? Worse abilities? Lower speed? Slower attacks? What is your definition of balancing here?

well first they are very overpowered v melee units and melee heroes
and 2nd they can reach places much faster because they fly

You have a semi-valid first point (that is what orbs were made for after all) but your second one does not bear complete truth.

First of all I could easily lower their speed so that they move much slower than ground forces.

Secondly I could semi-easily create air blocking doodads that prevent air units from going over them and thus accessing certain areas.

Thirdly I could just give the flying heros the art of flying but they are still ground troop movement.

Understand now why I am asking you to clarify what you mean?

that thing of the art of flying looks good maybe you can do something like windwalk then ( cant attack during flying and extra dmg when ending)
and your really hard to discuss with :d (but im k with that)

maybe you can make the air heroes take extra dmg from pierce dmg. that they really die when they fight ranged units

I think I will just make it an art thing, far easier that way and a lot less hassle. It makes it so I need not worry about new targeting systems or flying over landscapes.

Thank you guys for the help btw, and I think I will make them have light armour (that means extra damage to piercing).

the thing about air heros and inbalance is the fact that the hero can come out first. I think night elf could be the only race that could handle an air hero. I think its a good idea if the hero can only be a tier 3 hero without having to make the hero dramatically weaker to balance it out.
