First skin in what.. 3 years? TOM TOM :)

Does it look promising, and should I get back into making textures?

I suddenly had an urge to skin some again.. unfortunately my tools are very unfriendly with skins, so I had some trouble with getting the alpha to work fine (GIMP is shit for channel-editing, and Painter does not allow it at all). Hence there's no teamcolour on our friend Tom Tom.

I made the lamest screenshot of all time, 'cause I couldn't do anything nice with GIMP, so I made something crappy (which is possibly). It still pictures him as I have skinned him.

Wanted some feedback before I eventually put it up.
I started off with the idea to replicate Joker, hence the clown-y look on his face. Then I scrapped the idea and made a brown, furry troll with pants and metal-pads, and some green runes to justify the construction on the back (it looks really bad if you remove it, because the back of the ShadowHunter is identical to the front. Didn't come up with a better weapon, and I was getting sort of bored, so I just re-shaded it and alpha-ed it a bit differently than in the original.

Note: This is by all means no serious skin or idea, however, if you would like a character like this in your map, I could refine him and customize it for your needs.

Unwrapped.. just noting: it is the in-game outcome that matters and not the unwrap itself. I could draw anything in the unwrap looking cool, but when it's wrapped on the model, it turns out crappy. Anyway, here's the unwrap..

EDIT: uploaded as .png instead.

EDIT: I just realized I actually forgot to add eyes. Will update this tomorrow. Post anything on your mind and I'll look into it tomorrow, will check this thread before I start drawing.

Its almost completely recolor. So you fail.

Aight, you obviously have no knowledge of skinning, so I'll just ignore that statement. There is no such thing as recolour here, as long as recolour does not refer to redrawing everything (except the tusks, I didn't touch the tusks).

Basically, if you're complaining that the shadows are almost equal to the original- well it is only logical, because the shadows were placed there for a reason in the first place, that's where there are shadows. I do not change the lighting completely when I make a skin, then I'd have to make every skin in the same shade in order for it to look normal together.

So, in short; nothing here is recoloured.

Indeed, though I have the feeling it is not necessarily the practise that is lacking in this piece, other major components of a good skin is devotion and creativity. I seem to lack both.

He has pants. 'Nuff said. :D
Besides, if it is a recolour or not depends on the definition. The general idea of recolour, and the reason it is hated, it because if you want to make a recolour, you pick a colour, paint over the parts you want in that colour, and set the layer to 'Colour' or 'Hue' and the painting program will change the colour value to your choice- keeping the shadows, highlights, stroke-lines.. everything except the colour, intact. That is a recolour. None of this is done using that method, and if you do a black and white of my skin, and the original skin, and then subtract them from each other (use a 'Difference' layer for one of them) you will notice that not even the shadows are entirely on the same place, albeit they should be as they are placed pretty correctly by the original artist.
I agree though, I could have done more than turning a beast into a different beast. It was just what came to mind.

I mean it's a good quality and all but..wtf is it?
And for inspiration one word...Scourge

I have no idea what it is. I don't know why I called it Tom Tom, and I don't know why I made him brown and furry. The only idea I had in mind, was to make a Clown/Joker feel to his face, which I pretty much achieved if you ask me (though I forgot the eyes themselves).

Nice, but add more highlights, shading and contrast. Maybe some more armor on his arms?

Those arms and legs looks very boring. And they are not so sharp.

+ Add some kind of light source around his eyes. Like bright green and almost white in the middle. Bcuz it doesnt look like a light now. :)

Keep on working :)

There are no eyes at the moment, which explains the lack of reflection in them. :p
