There are no MPQs? Warcraft III uses CASC like all modern Blizzard games for the official game data.

The terrain itself uses primitive procedurally generated meshes. Only the cliffs and other terrain mesh altering doodads will use custom meshes. The procedurally generated mesh shape is determined by the terrain node height in the map .w3e file.
