Is there any way to use keys other than the arrows for player releases/presses key event eg player presses the a key if this is possible please tell me how.

Yeah, only press for Esc.

You can also use hotkeys and a permantly selected unit to get press events of other buttons but logically this greatly restricts what you can do in your map.

There is always SC2 where you can register script events for almost every keyboard button.

As far as checking if an key is "continuously pressed" these are the only keys that have that event.

However, if your talking about just pressing a button once:

You can also detect spacebar if you don't have a fixed camera. You can detect other keys through abilities but it has some limitations.
