Hm, pretty nice. Simple, but Id say it is very useful!
RaijinSpark, simply NO. Adding a custom skin would make this model useless, as noone would import such a simple model if it had a custom skin.
However you could mean that he should use different skins from WCIII, to make the model look better. If thats what you mean, then yes. Using even a bit of other skins for the clothing would be great. For example find a different skin for the coat.

Try to rewrap the model but use a different texture other than the villager

Yeap, much better. Since custom skin is well... custom skin. And custom skins in most cases arent the best thing for the model.

Definitely useful and needed model. For cinematics, RPGs, any kind of story/quest map.
