Editing scripts externally (not in WE)?

Why do some people use it? I imagine it's useful because you can put some CVS (SVN) to use, to track your past code, and that's a great benefit.

I'm asking those who store their map scripts externally, to share their experience, and basically outline how you do it, which editors/IDEs you use and how you compile the map in the end.

I think he uses an OS that doesn't support WE/Wc3.

The main advantage is speed. (In big maps, it will sometimes take a while to load scripts) Some people also prefer the IDEs of other tools (like JassCraft or NotePad++) opposed to TESH.

There isn't a huge benefit, I guess you can save scripts but otherwise it is just comfort or speed.
