Overview
You are a DragonHawk Rider,
this is your final test as an apprentice.
Collect all 40 orbs around the map to win.
If you crash, you fail.
Achieve this in the quickest time possible, and post your score at DH-Beta-Score.tk
Features:

-Realistic flight system
-Specific height reaction
-Keyboard gameplay, no mouse required
-Interactive environment
Controls:

Esc to flap and increase your height
Left+Right to turn
Hit the ground, you crash and die
Objective:

Collect all 40 orbs around the map to win
Do not touch the ground, you will fail the test
Do this as fast as possible

Im currently trying to:
-Better terrain
-More orbs, some you must avoid, some you have to collect in order, to add more fun to the game, currently is a but dull.
-Timer/score system to compare with other people on the hive



This is my beta flight system
I made this map to test an idea i had
looks like it worked, but with some bugs, which, i intend to get rid of.

Quick Fix
-Fixed a bug where you dont win if you collect all orbs.

I had the 1 gold per orb and 40g = win but removed it while trying to
make a multiboard unsuccessfully :|

-Fixed spam flap and crash bug [thx to Septimus for finding it]

Had to modify HorizonTal's Movement system.
-You now constantly move forward
-You cannot go 'back' only left and right keys used

It is now more efficient and less time consuming [for me]
-Total of 40 Orbs now
-Orbs vary in heights
-Difficulty increased [now you have to hit the orb exactly for it to count]

It dotta be easier to catch the orbs, i'm spending 20 minutes to get those in the center area... it just annoys me, that i fly through them a couple of times, not catching them, you gotta make the catching trigger, (if it works periodically) faster, or (if it's affected by when you flap / turn) a larger area. it just drains my will to spend such a long time trying to get those orbs... nice effects though... and... the villagers... can you kill them by moving into them? i moved really low, but they survived...

i think its easy to catch them all you just gotta figure out how it works coz their is X time until you go 100 down in height just before it does that click esc then you only go 100 up well actually 200 but it goes down so...

Pippo, i have been experimenting with a camera system of the site that lets you set your desired cam, that did not work so i guess ill make a normal '-cam1' change cam system.

i am trying to make the heights vary in 50's rather than 100s, to allow more accurate 'hits'

warhunter, there are some screens in the development thread but i guess it will be a good idea to add it here aswell..

yay finally updated lets see what it got^^

EDIT:
the loading screen obviously since it says Dragonhawk flight test 0,8 instead of Dragonhawk flight test 0,9
i like that it goes 50 down instead of 100 it makes it more challenging it made my time become around 2,5 min longer (took time on it before to see what my record would be.. lol)

Its fun when you crash into things. terrain could use some improvement. btw why was the dragon hawk rider going so slow when i crashed into the wierd orb.

the reason for the terrain not having any height variation, is because if you go down, then fly over a hill, you would move up again, so i cant add proper hills without it becoming confusing :|

breaking things: dont we all!

the orbs, i forgot to put this in there,
-Blue: Super Speed
-Green: Normal Speed
-Yellow: Slow Speed

they are buffs, if you collect one, the only way to remove it, is to get the green one, and they keep shifitng, so avoid the yellow!

I like it! Very original. It's hard. =D

Oh I do love to break things. =P

But I think the orbs should be a bit bigger and easier to catch.

I think its harder now because i chenged a few things in the update:
-You fall by 50 heaight/s not 100 like before
-Flapping has a 2s cooldonw

But on the flip side:
-it eliminated a bug where the orbs dnt collect
-its a bit easier to catch one, [bigger radius]

breaking things: dont we all!

Bigger orbs: just gave me an idea,
anoter buff, you collect it and it doubles the orb sizes?

dnnno if its possible, will find out :thumbs_up:

Btw, next version should be out of beta, since its 1.0...

Though, im gona take a editing break for a few weeks, exams dawning X|

well, i didn't know how to save my awesome score... well... Cool, you might want to make the height number change more grdually, and instead of saying:
- Set (variable:(actualheight)) to (actualheight - 50)
- change (dragonhawk rider xxx)'s fly height to (Variable:(actualheight)) at (whatever your rate is)
then say
From 1 to 50 do: multiple actions:
- Set (variable:(actualheight) to (Actualheight - 1)
- change (dragonhawk rider xxx)'s fly height to (Variable:(actualheight)) at (whatever your rate is)
- Wait 0.01 (or so)

That's what i would do, since it makes the gameplay much smoother, and thereby also the orb collection, which i've been so annoyed with... Hope you understand, 'cause it's not that complicated, my average trigger.

I'm also having my exams ^.^ and i'm doing great ATM.

Very interesting, though it wont work,
currently you decrease by 50 and increase by 200
so the only possible value of your height is:
0 50 100 150 200 250 300 350 400 450
and so on.

thats how you collect the orbs,
E-come within range of x unit
C-Unit is orb
-Units height is
-150
-200
-250
A-kill orb

like that, however, if you set it gradually, then ill have to make one condition for each height level

i cant set the height to detect the unit easily like
C-If units height is greater than 100
A-Kill unit

this wont work because the unit will die for every height ABOVE 100

could you list the things that did get destroyed even if you were above it?
ill be able to fine tune them.

Some things like trees have varying heights, and unless they do so, it doesent look good :\
so i gave trees an appx destroy height.

also, since the update, i dnt fine tune the destructables, trees houses etc.
before you only wer at hights of 100s [100 200 300 etc]

now ur at 50s so i can make it more specific.


btw hows the video XD
 
hmm... what about heeding what i said Cool? it really helps gameplay, and you can optimize your game's accuracy by up to 50 times!... well, the video's good... but it doesn't say, what it's actually about, doesn't it?

DragonHawk Flight Test v0.9 is a mini game in which you control a flying unit and you must collect all of the orbs scattered along the map, as fast as possible.

The terrain is very lacking. The tree model is poor, aswell as the tileset. You should vary it better, add more height, a better tree model, more dodoads, more terrain types. This is just bad.

The sole idea of the map is fine. It is somewhat original, however not developed enough. You lack some modes, spells and abilities. This is still very simple.

There should be some tips, since it is very confusing to play at the beginning. The gameplay wasn't that fun, however it wasn't boring. It just lacks more features.

The packaging of the map is good. Very simple, needs improvements, however the four mini moderators T-Ups and the "originality" decided that this map gets Approved with a 2/5 (Lacking) rating.
