what my question basically is, is should i modify one of the 300+ units available for anything i need? or am i safe to create custom units without increasing load time or otherwise impacting performance negatively?

First off,
Wrong thread, someone please move to World Editor Help Zone,
Next, I'm sure it does, but only a little bit, theres been many maps with Tons of Custom units that don't lag,
so I myself wouldn't worry about it.

Also,

sorry left sarcasm lock on. yes, i expected people to help me because that is what this forum is for and that is what keeps it running. sorry if i felt no need to make some sort of generic entrance in a self-introduction thread.

If you create new units during loading the map (at map initialization), the loadingtime indeed is increased. Wouldn't be a very large increase for 300 units though. However, you can create those units as well after the game has just started (elapsed game time = 0.00) to avoid this.

It would've helped if you didn't *obligate* him to introduce himself... Besides, I personally don't care if you introduced yourself or not.

my point exactly.

anyway el what i was talking about is the 300+ available for editting in the object editor. i was wondering if copying and pasting one of those, which creates a custom unit and adds to the total number of units, impacted loading performance at all. i think what you thought i meant was creating actual units on the map at game runtime via triggers. i was just worried about the maps actual list of units.

for further clarification, what i am doing with my map requires me to create a lot of custom dummy units. what i need to know is if it is best to avoid adding custom units and modify existing units to make them into dummies, or if it is okay to copy and paste the dummies i already made (thereby adding more custom units to my map)

if you place your units in map in WE (even more if they are heroes with lots of skills) they are loaded while the map is loading... so .. yes that will increase loading time... but it wont if they are custom, just dont care about it... create as many as you need ;)
