A normal stop shield is an octagon with the word "STOP" on it, afaik its normed, isn't it?
The sign he showed is round in many countries and means "do not enter" or "wrong direction" (could be called stop, but you shouldn't even move/drive/go/whatever to this path)

I live in England and all the No Entry signs I see look pretty similar to that.
