The idea is based on the same effect from Half-Life 2, happens when an dark-energy ball strikes an organism.

Effect works great in-game and looks incredible! I might use it in a project I'm working on.

EDIT: I wanted to note, you can create a rudimentary, scorched ground, after-effect by creating a modified destructible, and using Create- Destructible at instead of Create- Special Effect at in the trigger for the ground unit. Pretty much just a leftover shadow that can be walked over, but may also be useful and is easy to replicate.
Also, not sure if that creates leaks but I included attached screenshots and sample map of modifications needed to demonstrate.

That's a really cool and satisfying effect! I would love to do some small edits to make it fit different elemental abilities too, like shock, poison etc for maximum eye candy! :)
