Create a "Lantern" Item to light surroundings? Is it possible?

So I've been playing around with a night-time themed map and I've been thinking of creating an item that can illuminate the area around a hero unit.

I've talked with a buddy of mine about possibly creating a light source around the orb items, those things which swirl around a hero's weapon.

I've been toying with the idea of giving it a light source similar to the lights from torches and lanterns, so that it can add a unique level of cinematic atmosphere to the environment. However, my buddy said its not possible and that I shouldn't waste my time cause it might not be possible.

Not having the Lantern item won't be the end of the world for me, but I would really love to have it.

So is it really not possible to add lighting to item models?

Here's a basic light model, you can attach it to an ability like claws of attack and give it to your item, and it's done

You can change the color, the intensity etc in Magos model editor
