Vexorian made vjass, so i guess v is for Vexorian. In fact, vJass is actually Jass, just with major improvements, both in performance and looks. vJass is some kind of compiler which turns your vJass code into valid Jass code actually. Again, i'm not completely sure about this. =)

Well... vJASS has a lot more functions that JASS!
with vJASS you can swap units textures during the game, do you know?

False. There isn't anything vJass can do which Jass can't. I agree, that some things are way more easier to do with vJass. Actually, everything is, but it's not something you can't do using old school Jass.

And just to varify, the method for changing a units skin ingame doesn't require any triggering at all, except ordering the unit to cast the ability, which is only one line of code, even in Jass.

mmm just a small update :

the story line has been chosen :D all thanks to Nbah, and bountyhunter 2.

im not going to say what happens. only when its released will you find out :)

christmas break is coming up. I plan to get alot done. Over the past week i have been having some inspirational drawbacks. in other words its slow going. I am expanding the crag fields and placing more rocks in there, but im trying not to increase the lag thats already there . ( right now, on a computer like mine, which is 520 MB of RAM and 48 MB of memory, the lag is about 14 FPS, which is 14 frames per second,... a bit laggy ) I hope not to get below 10, because that would result in choppy gameplay...

In other areas however, the lag ranges from 20 all the way to 40 FPS... which is pretty good.

EDIT : O and umm

any JASSERS, know any good codes for fog transitions ? like, changing the fog from one area to the next making a gradual change ( about a 5 second change ) of color transition... not sure how to do that...

wow this thing looks so epic! I'm guessing it's gonna be like rexxar campaign with different levels right? There's too much going on for it to be in just 1 map :>

haha no it wontbe like that.

the size of the map is 480 by 480. i really dont need another map . i can fit everything into this one : )

although, if this map takes off, i might have an expansion. i was thinking of having a place called Valland, which is located further inland to the old world. so maybe i will think of having an expansion map.

Fuck the size of the map. I would rather download a map with a size of 200mb instead a map at 1mb.

As long that it is not a multiplayer map, dont think at map size

ive planned the whole layout of the new world. its pretty cool.
there are the Pine Shores, Crag Fields, Elora, Highlands, Ezmeraldine, Monolith Mountains, Dread Wood, Dark Cloud Manor, Dark Cloud Castle, and Faeallis .

ill draw a map for you guys >.> using paint or something.

But Where do you get these models if never seen em in the hive database or in the UTM (maybe thei r only for this project?)

hmm just and update...

-- added another screenie of the Pine Shores. This has been my main focus for the past couple of days. I am about half way done with it.

--The Village of Elora is 80 % done. everything except the boardwalks, people and the pathing blockers have been put in.

-- size of the map is now 53 MB. I added some songs that really add to the atmosphere.

-- put in multiple ambients to the map, so that it sounds realistic.

-- I plan to finish the Pine Shores by thursday. And then i will move on to the Highlands and Ezmeraldine, which is the most northern part of the map. Ezmeraldine is planned to be a snowyish area, with tall confierous trees. the highlands, are a sort of dry tundra.

There wont be any testers for a long while. Why? well the elements of the game havn't been made yet ( like characters, abilities and quests). When the terrain of the New world is done, i will start to make those things.

hmm lets see

the terrain iz proabobly 25 % done... since the new world is about 40 % of the map. and im more than halfway done with the new world. The old world hasn't even been started yet. which would be the other 60 %.

so terrain is 25 % done.. and triggers are about 15 % done.

Units are 2 %
abilities are 0 %

the storyline has been all figured out. except for the minor details. so its 75 %.

so here is the overall :

terrain= 25%
triggers = 15%
abilities = 0 %
units = 2%
sotryline = 75 %

total = 23.5 %

ya long way to go xD

I tought of making something simmilar like your map...or I can help you out with terraining for beta (even gamma...lol) testing

im sorry for all the little terrain teasers. but i had the inspiration to take this one.

I sarted working on Ezmeraldine today.

I turned this one into the Loading screen for the Game.As you can tell i photshopped this one a bit.

but the unphotoshopped one is on the first page of this thread.

Edit : Size of map has gone down to 47 MB. I got rid of all the songs that i put in, since none seemed to have fit the theme of the story : /

They were all from Raziel's icecrown Altered melle map. I do not know the original creators of the models, so im not sure who to credit for these.

but raziels map is a good one. You should play it.

1) this is a member of the dark cloud. A curropted people.

2) this is another type of dragon, called elder dragons. The evil ones reside in the highlands, while the good ones reside in ezmeraldine.

3) this is the main character ( renamed to Seth ) he gets this awsome outfit in his house, up in the attic.

4) this is the gruesome sitre of the valtirie. They are the corrupters of the west. as you can see they are pure evil >.>

Anachron, seriusly, that comment is so useless.
You think we're wasting our lives? I'm not wasting my life at all by making a Warcraft III ORPG. It's like a hobby.
Even though Everwood consumes a lot of time, I still see my friends every day etc. I only work on the map when I feel like doing it. If we think making maps is waste of time, don't you think we would have stopped a long time ago?
We do this for fun.

however, we can still all strive to make " A More perfect RPG"

is this game a waste of time? not really, it seems to never get boring. Am i living my life? of course i am, i am havin tons of fun at 16, with added fun from this game.

and Roleplayngamer is right. We do this for fun. For You to have fun. :D

I think your campaign looks good so far, except for those first and last 2 models. You know they are characters from a video game series, right? I honestly won't be able to take you seriously if you use those. Same probably goes for those who have played a single game in the series.

umm what video game series are you talking about?

if im not mistaken, they are reskinned WOW models (except the dragon )

Well there is also the fact with cheating...
You're going to have to waste your time by putting in triggers like:
  • Events
    • Player - Player 1 (Red) types whosyourdaddy as an exact match
    • Player - Player 1 (Red) types iseedeadpeople as an exact match
    • Player - Player 1 (Red) types greedisgood as a substring/exact match (idk)
    • Player - Player 1 (Red) types cheat1 as an exact match
    • Player - Player 1 (Red) types cheat2 (so on..) as an exact match
  • Conditions
  • Actions
    • Game - Remove Player 1 (Red) with Defeat Message: No cheating allowed!
and thats just a waste of time to do that... even though it'll take 10 minutes... it still DOES NOT make the RPG fun... because... you have no team... so basically you have to train at a low level place for hours and hours... boring... and you're probably most likely going to die on a boss...
while online, you have a team and they can help you out and power level you or get you some items to level yourself, but in a better area...

I'm just saying...
It's not going to have the same feeling as an online RPG...
You have to do everything alone... which will take the player forever to complete.

well back to square one with the models >.>

edit : playersfear, noone uses those triggers anymore >.> and it doesn't take 10 minutes to make such a simple trigger like that... more like 30 seconds.

there is a better way to disable cheats. without having to loose the game.

im not even going to disable them. instead, i will diminish their significance to the game.

edit RE : let me explain further :

NOt all RPG's have UBer super skill high level impossible bosses that are impossible to defeat without a team.
If you remember from many zelda games, it takes cunning and strategy to kill a boss. thats what i plan to implement in this rpg.

and truth is , you WONT be alone. You are able to control other units that you have to take down a boss.
for the extra characters are storyline people.

and as for the leveling for hours, i dont know what RPG's you have played, but that is just a false statement about my RPG. It doesn't take long to level up in the areas. i might not even consider having levels. but instead, abilities having levels and stats that you can select to increase. and it would definetly not take that long. perhaps 30 minutes within the vast areas of the Pine Shores, Elora, and
Lake Lamestrang to get to level 10 -12. from there you would head to dread wood, and get 6 levels there...then move to ezmeraldine, where you will reach level 26. after that would be the highlands and the crag fields, where you might amass to level 35. then comes the monolith mountains, where you will reach 45. and lastly comes the darkcloud castle where the max level is 50.

of course that wont be it. that is only the new world.

in the old world, the adventure continues in more detailed magical lands. where your level can reach level 100.

I like how this map is going :) I prefer single player rpgs than multiplayer maps, can you have a party in this game or it will be just one hero?

update :

things have advanced alot !!

--so far Roleplayngamer has offered a few jass systems that would help me in creating the fun things on my map.

-- i created a few quests. They look pretty cool from ingame, it seems like a PS2, or a Xbox 360 game

-- i have a new model for our main character ( who is renamed to Seth Gadin)

--the camera system was worked on a bit. it is very smooth and makes it feellike a real video game. Still need to work out the little things.

-- terrain has been going good. Almost done with Ezmeraldine. Started working on the Old World.

-- Attack system is in. It's pretty fun. I am waiting for a bettter one at the time being.

I will also put up screenies in about an hour :D

and to answer bestoboy's question, it would probably take waaayy more than a day. Since there is so much map to be explored, and all the quests that can be done ( so far im done with 5 of them( more than 100 left to go :O) it will take a long while.

some of the models were based on gothic. For instance, the walls texture of some of the buildings are from gothic.

perhaps i will put up a video of gameplay, since screenshots dont really show the gameplay.

this will be the last screenshot. then perhaps i will add a video. if i download fraps or something...

and thankz for everyone 4 tha positive feedback :D Trust me u wont be disappointed.

-- as for testers, there wont be any for a while. I will inform you when i will need alpha testers... which im shooting for by the end of march ( my birthday ) but it may take longer than that. I also have to get my faster internet working( right now i am using dreaded dial up ) so when that happens, i can upload it.

1) the first screenshot is a screenie of Seth Gadin. He is using an ability that makes him spin in circles really fast :p but ya its a cool move ingame.
