--- The Dark Cloud ---

The perfect RPG.

~~~~ Features ~~~~
These are the features that have so far been implemented :

-Map size has been increased to 480 by 480. This means the map is 4 times bigger than an epic size map. More exploration can be done and the game will be effectivly much longer and funner.

- A 3rd person camera system. There are 7 different cameras, which can alter your view of the envirnment around you, and can be adjusted to your comfort to enjoy it to the fullest.

- A unique action style of gameplay. Instead of Typical RPG's where you stand in one place and do mindless attacking, you must use wit, cunning, skill and speed to properly slay a creature. For instance, your sword is usable with the use of the ESC button, allowing a good flexibilty on where, who, and when you can attack.

- This map uses High Resolution models, so your envirnment seems very real, nearly flawless.

- You are able to explore the insides of houses. Simply approach the door, and you are able to explore the inside of castles, corridors, shops, houses etc..(Edit : You are now able to explore ALL houses. After much consideration, i have made it so that no extra space is consumed in creating houses. The only unenterable houses are houses that are to small to be entered :p...but thats only 4 out of maybe 100 houses...)

- A unique weopon/ equipment system ( not entirly finished ) where you equip a weopon, and gives you different attacks. Its very unique indeed.

- An arrow key movement system with noise. You are able to move your character by using the arrow keys, and when you walk, your character will make realistic footsteps.

These are the features that have NOT been implemented, but will soon be :

- A unique talking system, where you are able to speak with other characters ( Dont confuse this with an actual conversation, it is not an entered chat string system. )

- Many quests will keep the game interesting, even though it is not a entirly linear RPG, it will have a storyline.

- There will be " proffesssions " that you can learn. For instance, You are able to lockpick chests ( locked chests are spread out over the Game ) and you are also able to learn how to craft weopons, gather flowers to make fun potions and many more.

- there will be many books in the world, where you can read them ( many of them have tips on where to find items, defeat legendary creatures, make complicated armors,etc..)

~so far it is 49 MB big. It will be in a campaign file, and will soon have it's size reduced to 40 MB.

~ It is a SINGLE PLAYER rpg/action game.

~ It is a flexible RPG, where it has a storyline, but the game is not linear, for you can do many other things in the mean time, without having to worry about completeing the main story quest.

I realized that my thread may be a bit misleading. The title of the thread " The Perfect RPG " only signifies the goal i intend to reach with this map. In other words, i WANT this to RPG to be perfect. It is not done yet, so dont assume that i am bragging or anything because it is not even close to being finished. I appreciate feedback of all sorts. Ideas and support are also welcomed warmly to this thread as well.

~~---Storyline ---~~

The Dark Cloud is an organization of evil. Assembled when the New World was discovered. The Group usto have the name " The Silver Sky ", for they weren't always evil. However, when two individuals, the leaders of the "Elorian's" and" The Silver Sky" had a dispute over the land that they claimed. they began to show discontent for one another.

Until the year 954, all was well. for the "Elorian's" had settled near the pine shores, and "the Silver Sky" had moved further in land in a land they called Sarnvartol . However, an unknown manifestation had corrupted their people.

Between the years of 958 and 1014 , a long a dreary war had been raged between the two factions, as the Dark Cloud ( which they were renamed to )
threatened to end all existing life other than them and a strange demonic people called the valltirie.

the war ended when the dragons from the old world came to the new world. The dragons slew all that stood in there way. The settled in the monolith mountains, which border the main passes between Elora and The Dark Cloud.

The year is now 1734. Peace has been fragile. recently strange sittings of sick and twisted beings have been seen wandering around Elora. It seems that the Dark Cloud has finnally found a way to Elora without having to pass the monolith mountains. Not only that, but it seems that they have enlisted some of their dragon ranks into their own.

The boiling point is here. you and your character will unravel into a story of epic proportion. For you have no idea your importance in what will happen next.

It doesn't really have anything to do with The Dark Cloud, but it does take place in the Dark Cloud world. It takes place in Valland, which is not available for playing yet in this map ( perhaps in an expanision when it gets done.)

1) The first Screenshot is a screenie of the entrance to the Monolith mountains, Where a dragon clan resides. This is the the 2nd to the last hardest zone on the map ( Next to the Dark Cloud Castle )

2 ) The Second Screenshot is a screenie of the inside of Dragons Post, a watch tower stationed at the entrance to the Monolith Mountains ( So far it has no people in it. )

3) the third screenshot is a screenie of Ezmeraldine. This is the farthest land from the reach of the Dark Cloud. It is almost untouched by any human presence. However the Dark Cloud is well aware of this land, and is approaching ever faster to it.


4) The fourth Screenshot is the character screen. You will be able to do many things on this screen, such as change your elemental affinity, equip armor, and view certain stats. The scenery of the character screen is just for looks, so that you could have something to look at as you view stuff :p.

5) The fifth Screenshot is a screenie of The Crag Fields. Seth stands in front of one of the four giant statues in the Crag fields. Who the statues are depicting is unkown...

o wow those are awsome VELM :D

o by the way, the 48 MB has been a pain in my ass. The problem with trying to reduce it, is that all the High Rez models use many of the same textures as one another, so if i want to get rid of 1 texture, 10 models will end up not loading : /

Screenshots added, and i know these are kinda plain... ill take more pics when its more detailed ( trust me, in game, the envirnment is freakin beutiful because of the high rez.)

By the way, If the Map is put into a campagn file, it is uploadable to this site. Which is my plan. Music and sounds are NOTHINg compared to the size of the high rez textures,. so what is a few extra megabites...
my over all plan is to get it to 40 MB, f its possible...

i have started to create a story that might make this really interesting...

so here is a sneak at it.

Corith Gadin, son of Alexander Gadin, is at his house. It's a normal day.
Alexander went to work that mourning, and wont be home until sunset.
--- at this point, there are no quests, and you are free to do what ever you want in the vicinity of exploration( the south western portions of the map ) and explore the envirnment and your character.---

at a certain point, you find a certain something somewhere in the Town of Elora...
a secret plan dropped by a shady character.
The Letter describes a plan to infiltrate the village of Elora, which was of recently chosen as the new capitol of Vauland. The last words on the letter were :

"TDC, All Hail WAG"

Corith is in shock, so the first thing he does is tell his father about it. His father, a wealthy slave owner.
Corith does not like his father to much, for they both have different values. But he goes and shows his father the note.

His father takes the note, and tells Corith that it will be urgently discussed at an emergency town meeting.

It will only be a matter of time before this attack will come. Corith prepares for a battle...

EDIT : okay, this idea is scratched...

ill tell you the lay out.

in the beggining you will follow a storyline that is flexible... which means that, you dont really have to do them in a time limit, and your not retricted to just that storyline, for you can do a million other things before you can continue your journey ( like learniing to make weopons, armor, learning how to steal ( lockpicking ) etc..

then as you progress, your level gets higher, allowing you to reach areas, you weren't able to go to before ( either through level aquirment, or by completeing a quest in the storyline.)

then near the end, after you have defeated a certain someone ( lol tiny spoiler :p )
you can continue to play the game, and find secret areas, unlocked by beating the storyline.

it sounds kindof like a pokemon kind of thing, you know, but of course its goind to be way better ( i hope :p )

but dont think of it as an OPEN RPG, you are restricted in some way. Its kindof like one big game, but it is split up into many many parts.
 
not true, although it would be nice to have high rez models...

some have more poly's than others.. i plan to go search for a higher poly unit, to make it fit better.
Actually yes, the normal unit models are nowhere near as gritty and realistic as the imported models. The textures on them are blurry and too colorful for the style of the environment.

But it's nothing terribly wrong.

Bump -->

okay progress has advanced...

-the attack system is in ( yay :D )
-the movement is in ( with the arrow keys ) along with the footstep sounds ( yay :D)
-all 7 cameras are in, with better smoothing

terrain is slow going, since i am having some space issues ( i wish the map could extend past 256x256, but it cant, not even with WEU : /)

next step is to put in a equipment system, something similiar to that of TCX, although, it may be harder.

screenshots will be put up soon once im done with the crag fields( a part of the map, that will look awsome :D)

i was testing out my map, and i by mistake left extra units on the map that belonged to PLayer One Red.

So, i decided to do something interesting.

you will only find this in the Alpha version. It wont happen in real life :p

If you are wondering, Vulzor is a boss dragon.. i havn't fixed his stats or abilities yet though...

Doesn't sound very promising.

No I'm not bashing your map, no I'm not telling you to stop working on it,
No, I'm not even trying to be mean, But if your going to Boast perfect, it better be perfect.
Or else I'm going to pick out every flaw and make you remember it forever.

-Camera System,
Sounds Okay, The Everwood Camera allows complete control with Arrow keys that allow as close as you want to as far as You want with different angles, along with the ability for the default wc3 camera, yours sounds less than advanced.

-Attack System
Omg, I Got to press escape to attack? That sounds rather retarded, why not use the A button. Dark Invasion 2, features that, and not only are you forced to swing, you have a bit of a "Cool down" Bar, and if you let it fully recharge you do more damage, where is if you attack fast over and over you do a lot less.

-High Resolution Models
Oh, Woop Dee do, we can all take those High res models and make something look good, Nothing special here.

-Inside of Houses.
Oh boy, Lets go inside random houses and do, Lets see... Nothing. Adding the ability to enter Every building is rather pointless, especially if you use much of the map area to create interiors. Fate ORPG and Everwood allow players to explore buildings just by entering through the door and the Building itself becomes transparent and the interior is seen.

-Unique Weapon System
Sounds very simular to Dark Invasion 1 and 2's system. Nuff said.

-Arrow Key Movement
Name says it all, Arrow keys are a No no, even tho its singleplayer and it will be fine
There annoying. And, Ooo.. Aaah... noises as we walk, Yay.

-"Unique" talking system
I've seen plenty, One where you click on someone it rolls a random integer and whatever number it has a different string, I've seen Tkok's, I've seen plenty, I can't WAIT to see why Yours is unique.

-Quests
Omg, Quests are always fun, Every map has quest, Get over it, Usually the more there are the more Boring they Get, Proabably a buncha "Collect These" quests.

-Professions
Actually, a lot of maps seem to promise this, and Not one has finished most of them yet,
tho I've seen a lot in the making and some that even work, I wonder how yours will look.

-Books
Yay, books... I don't think anyone has done this... but, I don't see no need for it?

-Remember
I doubt I'll remember it,

-Size
Doesn't matter to me

-Single player
Boring

-Open Style gameplay
Yay, but if I see One restriction of where I can go besides borders, I'm going to complain.

you are right in many aspects... Though the title is " the Perfect RPG " that is only for the thread. MY goal was to make it into the perfect RPG. Trust me, im not boasting about it. My goal IS to boast about it once it IS the perfect RPG. People like you, with good critiques get me that much closer to it being perfect : )

You are right about my camera system... it is very simple indeed. I plan to improve it later on.

you are also right about the attack system. It isn't that elaborate yet. I plan to take more measures on improving it. When i tested it, it wasn't that annoying. The only annoying thing about it was that the main character would Auto aquire attack targets, so that when you try to run away, you tend to go back to the target :/ It can be easily fixed.

Terrain is a different story. Just because its high resolution doesn't mean anyone can make a terrain look good ( trust me i know ). Ive created bad looking high rez terrain before... i have also made excellent looking terrain without high Rez before. But what i was going for in this map was a realistic perception on what it should look like. Not the cartoony textures of the Blizzard trees, or the funny looking shapes of shrubs or houses.

and for the restrictions, i explained before that there is only a restriction on where you can go according to your level. I mean if you are level one, and decide to go to the Monolith mountains, which have level 47 dragons, than feel free to go there... but most likly you will be toasted. If you really do however want to cheat by using " Whosyourdaddy " then go head... you would just ruin the game that way :/
Also about restrictions,... unless i get a better camera system that allows your camera to not sink below terrain when venturing on hills, than yes there will be a ristriction on climbing mountains.

Single player is definetly not boring. Especially if you have a good storyline, or way of speaking to NPC's

Quests range in many ways. Many will not be like WOW, where it says " Kill 8 wolfs, 6 bunnies and 2 rabbits and ill give you gold " , Instead it will be more of an exploration thing. Where one quest may say " Find out what is going on in the crag fields, and bring some friends with you, its not safe" and then when you go you enter a " cutscene " and you find out... and end up in a fight maybe.. who knows... the only way to find out is to play when it is done.

and lastly, the Size does matter to alot of people. Some people might not have a T3 super speed monster computer like you do, and download times vary amongst everyone.

by the way, you HAVE been helpful with your submission of information : ) i have not played the maps you speak of but i will try and find them and perhaps incorporate there triggers into my map and hopefully will be successful in creating " A more perfect RPG "

Everwood, is a ORpg I'm working on, Texture person, Dark Invasion II is out, Fate ORpg Isn't out yet, heard its almost there.

Sorry about being so Truthful. About the High Resolution pack, I think the person somewhere admitted that some of those Textures came from a Gothic game [3 I Think.] So I Don't have much a like for that high resolution pack.

and i notice Everwood on the map devolpment section. looks awsome too.

i didn't want to start a flame war on my thread about " oh its perfect " " of its not perfect " and crap cause really its still in construction, so i cant say anything about it right now. :p

and it is sorta true, some of the walls were based on gothic 3

Update :

okay, the Map is now 4 times the size than it originally was.
It is up from 256 x 256, to 480 x 480. All thanks to the newJen package.

This changes things. it will extend the time it will be realeased, which is bad,
however it will make the map better by making it even longer. here is a summary.

-- There are two land masses in the game. There is the New world, and then there is the Old World. The main story takes place in the new world. Once you complete it however, you can then go on and explore the Old world, which is 3 times bigger than the new world. and another story is begun.

i am working more on it this weekend. :)

Will you have any choices during the game like "Help this bandit who broke his leg" or "Kill him and take all hi gold" ? That would really amp up the rpg aspect of it

hmm ill consider it.

of course i dont think ill give conversation options to bandits, it kill or be killed :p

but maybe on a " quest giver " or neutral person have options like :

- ask about the wereabouts of officer Herad
- ask if he needs something
- push him, then spit on him. xD

ill definetly consider that.

i have always found though that once you make one decision, you cant stop worrying about what would have happened if you chose the other descision... that pisses me off, and it might piss other people off.

but i might plan to make it so that eventually you'll have to choose the right thing to do maybe.

The storyline implies that Corith is a good doer, not an evil doer. But then again you do aquire allies on the way, so they may have decisions too.

Its in the works.

this is going to cost to much space for your map maybe you need to consider to let this idea go the screenshots looks nice but in your first post i cant almost see nothing on hte third screen

~~~~ Features ~~~~
These are the features that have so far been implemented :

- A 3rd person camera system. There are 7 different cameras, which can alter your view of the envirnment around you, and can be adjusted to your comfort to enjoy it to the fullest.

- A unique action style of gameplay. Instead of Typical RPG's where you stand in one place and do mindless attacking, you must use wit, cunning, skill and speed to properly slay a creature. For instance, your sword is usable with the use of the ESC button, allowing a good flexibilty on where, who, and when you can attack.

- This map uses High Resolution models, so your envirnment seems very real, nearly flawless.

- You are able to explore the insides of houses. Simply approach the door, and you are able to explore the inside of castles, corridors, shops, houses etc..

- A unique weopon/ equipment system ( not entirly finished ) where you equip a weopon, and gives you different attacks. Its very unique indeed.

- An arrow key movement system with noise. You are able to move your character by using the arrow keys, and when you walk, your character will make realistic footsteps.

These are the features that have NOT been implemented, but will soon be :

- A unique talking system, where you are able to speak with other characters ( Dont confuse this with an actual conversation, it is not an entered chat string system. )

- Many quests will keep the game interesting, even though it is not a entirly linear RPG, it will have a storyline.

- There will be " proffesssions " that you can learn. For instance, You are able to lockpick chests ( locked chests are spread out over the Game ) and you are also able to learn how to craft weopons, gather flowers to make fun potions and many more.

- there will be many books in the world, where you can read them ( many of them have tips on where to find items, defeat legendary creatures, make complicated armors,etc..)

--- Information ---

~when it will be realeased ( not anytime soon ), it will be a map worth remembering.

~so far it is 49 MB big. It will be in a campaign file, and will soon have it's size reduced to 40 MB.

~ It is a SINGLE PLAYER rpg/action game.

~ It is a flexible RPG, where it has a storyline, but the game is not linear, for you can do many other things in the mean time, without having to worry about completeing the main story quest.

Side Note--->

I realized that my thread may be a bit misleading. The title of the thread " The Perfect RPG " only signifies the goal i intend to reach with this map. In other words, i WANT this to RPG to be perfect. It is not done yet, so dont assume that i am bragging or anything because it is not even close to being finished. I appreciate feedback of all sorts. Ideas and support are also welcomed warmly to this thread as well.

1) The first Screenshot is a screenie of the entrance to the Monolith mountains, Where a dragon clan resides. This is the the 2nd to the last hardest zone on the map ( Next to the Dark Cloud Castle )

2 ) The Second Screenshot is a screenie of the inside of Dragons Post, a watch tower stationed at the entrance to the Monolith Mountains ( So far it has no people in it. )

3) The Third Screenshot is a screenie of The Crag Fields, a land scarred by the evil of the Dark Cloud.

4) The fourth Screenshot is a screenie of a battle ( It was an Alpha test, just a glimpse of what a battle may look like.)
i intend to reach the perfect Open RPG =3
and do you use vJASS, JASS, GUI or vGUI? =3

HUH?! You are sad for 40 mb campaign?! My MAP is 700 mb and i am proud of it! Size = quallity!!!

this isn't a competition :p, dont forget sidenote :p

o and i plan to use jass or vjass, so far however, i am a noob at jassing.

perhaps when the terrain is finished, i will hand it to someone who can do all the complicated coding.

for now though, im still in a GUI state, but im already starting to do the simple jass codes...
