Cinematic Contest - Trilogy

Description:
This contest will be a cinematic competition of great proportions. Instead of asking users to make one cinematic, they will be asked to make 3; a trilogy. All three cinematics must follow a central storyline, character set, etc. Each map must follow a different theme though. For example, your first map could get us into the story using humor, thus it would be a comedy. The second map could explain the idea of whats going on in a dramatic way. And then the third map could wrap everything up in a horrific way. Each map follow a different them; comedy, drama, horror. Of course, you don't have to choose a different genre for each one. If you'd like, you could make all three cinematics dramas, but have a different theme for each. For example, your first film could be filled with action and killing, then the next could be filled with pure plot building, and the third could be filled with primarily talking. All three films can have action and killing in them, but the focus of each one is different. The first focuses on one aspect, the second another, and the third another. Get it?

Rules:
1. Make it look like a movie. When I watch this I want to feel like I'm watching a movie, not a warcraft III cinematic. This means, make sure every piece of dialogue has a voice over for it, and feel free to use lots of imported models. If this looks like a cinematic because random characters have voice overs while others don't, or all of them don't, then the judges will deduct a tremendous amount of points, if they decide not to disqualify you.
2. Each cinematic has to be a different map. What I mean by this is, don't use the same map for all three cinematics. I want to have to open up a different map in Warcraft III to watch each cinematic, and I want the terrain to be different for each one. Your not forbidden from reusing the same piece of terrain (a city for example) in all three cinematics, but dont create one map with one terrain, and then put the cinematography for three different cinematics into three different versions of that same map.
3. Cinematics only. The objective is to make this look like a movie. Don't give the user any choice whatsoever into how the cinematic progresses.
4. No filthy cinematics. The rules of this sight forbid pornography, and so does this contest. The judges will frown upon and deduct points for what they consider to be innapropriate (I'm not a Muslim, but I don't want to see you mocking Alah. You do that, and you'll find your cinematic's lost a lot of crucial points.).
5. This is a trilogy, remember that! When your making your cinematics, make sure all three of them follow the same story! Don't make one story for the first, and then a completely different one for the second and third.
6. Only one person may have worked on each submission. This means you can't get together with two other friends, and each of you spends three months making one cinematic a piece. You can use other people for voice actors or download other people's models, but only one person can actually make the map.
7. No third party programs. I don't want to see you using WEU, or any other third party program.
8. All cinematics must be made for the this contest. No past work allowed.

What the Judges are Looking For
Storyline: How good a story was it? Did it entice me and make me want to keep watching, or was it terrible and I was just waiting for the end to see if it got any better. 20 points
Terrain: How well was the terrain made? 15 points
Sound: Remember, this is supposed to be like a movie. How well was the sound? Was the voice acting good? Was the music good? 15 points
Originality: How original was the story? Did you just make a rippoff of COTD? Or did you create something we've never seen before? 10 points

Time Limit:
The time limit for each individual map will be 15 minutes. If the map is amazingly enthralling and the judges are loving it, a grace period will be given of 5 minutes per map. This means if you made an awsome cinematic that the judges love, you can go up to 20 minutes without being disqualified. Go for 20 minutes and 2 seconds though, and no matter how good the entry it will still be disqualfied.

Deadline:
Probably 3 months after the contest begins (one month for each cinematic).

Scores:
The judges will look for:
Sounds: 15 points (voice overs, music, sound effects).
Story: 15 points.
Terrain: 10 points.
Camera: 5 points (let's be honest, no one likes a shaky camera).
Imports: 5 points (where the imports worth the extra download time, or was it just a waste? and if there weren't any, then did the regular wc3 models fit the theme well? this does not include sounds).

Yes, the time limit is under "Deadline". there are no time limits for each map though, just all three as a total. The time limit is 3 months, so if you want you can spend 1 month on each map, or 2 months on the first map, and then 1 month completing the next two. Whatever floats your boat.

oh, right. Hmm, I hadn't thought about that, but now that you mention it I would probably limit it to 10 or 15 minutes per a map. And if a judge finds the first map so terribly boring that he doesn't want to watch the next two, he can do that and he just won't give a score for the entry. If all the judges skip over the same entry, then it will be disqualified. Since 15 minutes per map could meen there would be a 45 minute entry, we don't want to make the judges sit through a mind numbingly boring entry that their just going to give a crappy score anyways...

the limit is 15 mins per map, the expectations is 7.

and i get what your saying about the terrain, but you are allowed to "recycle" favorite terrain sections from previous maps. It would be difficult, but you'd have 3 months to do it.

Making one map for a contest can be a lot of work. Now my Paired Mapping Contest goes for 3 months, and theres only 14 days left till the deadline, but only one map has been submitted. Now how are people gonna make 3 maps in the same amount of time?

The key there is 3 cinematic maps. Cinemas are easier to make than regular maps. I mean ya, if you want to make something on the same level as CotD, then thats going to take a while, but making a few minute cinematic in a month is a piece of cake.

btw, same to you purge :)

If this gets approved, I guess my cinematic contest #2 will have to wait.

Good luck
Sorry NovaBlade, but Purge and Bob27 are already working on our next cinematic contest(s).

Look for one or more of them to begin soon, this contest submission will now be moved to Unapproved Contests for future reference and consideration.

~ Thread moved.
