This could all have been done using in-game textures. Even the skull; you could have blended a rock material layer with the skeleton texture, and, if necessary, used a geoset animation to make it yet darker. The crystals could have been easily done by blending the crystal texture with any red texture such as the lava tile or blood spurts.

Sure, it looks interesting, but it could have been done without creating custom textures for everything, especially when you're just changing their hue/brightness/contrast.

I do love the way the colors turned out, though. I just wish you'd do it with in-game textures.
