This is an idea i had for a map. Although i want to know if its new and refreshing, because i think it is.

This will be an AoS-like map, cliche no? Well not really because your heroes have a more important job then just fighting alongside the troops. Your heroes should escort kodo and horse caravans with gold and lumber to they're deposit places so you're team can afford better defenses and waves. This will be orcs vs humans, and as for caravans the orcs will have kodo and the humans will have horses.

You start by picking a hero (who i hope will all have unique abilities), then when every player has chosen a hero the barricades are down and the first wave is launched. Then the players can co to the caravan master (or something like that) and request to escort a caravan, then a passive unit (or hostile, depends on which team you're on) is sent out to get some gold or lumber whichever you chose to escort. If the horse/kodo survives the way he will pack himself with resources and you will have to escort him back to the deposit.

Teams will have to gather certain amounts of resources to upgrade they're troops and defenses. In the meanwhile you're all nice collecting resources everyone else is doing the same! And you're team camps are still at war, this should create fun battles and enough aciton because you can also raid enemy caravans.

PROBLEM - I don't want the heroes to focus on fighting along side the soldiers in the wave, how do i do this? shall i make them unable to join the fight??

This is a GREAT Idea!

When I was looking at the map I was thinking how many battles are going to take place... and I'm a bit worried the Camps will interfere with eachother to the point every two seconds people will get attacked instead of ambushes and such....

A beautiful thing about units and heroes is how you can make units pretty strong.... and there are always wave damage that you did not want to occur (like slam or Cleaving attack)

Give the orc units these two and the human units a long range catapult and the heroes will be too afraid to enter the fray just because they will get killed in instants just because of all of the splash damage...

But... Archers and sourcers would clearly be able to still fight if you let your enemies fight for too long....

I'm thinking you should give each unit a type of Critical Strike mech... that the flow of battle will be too unpredictable for players to want to stay there for too long... (SOmetimes your units crush your enemies, other times they get killed off easily...)

And then have the towers in front of each base to act as a defense mech so your enemies may win the battle but they are still too weak to invade the base without getting killed

Also... Getting gold is an important aspect...
Make sure that the Heroes get no Bounty from kills.... Except for maybe 1 gold per kill....
-The real gold should come from being an escort....
--When you return, you get 250 vs fighting in the battle feild for the same amount of time and get 50-75 gold....

With the gold you can buy Experience tomes to make up for the lack of fighting and a little bit more

Another thought is...
If you have more then one person protecting a single Caravan... they both get 125 instead of 250.... THat way people will feel obligated to fight in the battle instead of just hanging out in the Caravan Land all day....

I like the caravans idea.
What I just don't like is the 'Orcs vs Humans'. This is falling deeply in an old and boring cliche. Either Scourge and Sentinel sound original, or Horde and Alliance.
Something new.
By one side, the Arabian Rogues, they are merciless, and give anything for a good deal with the caravan stuff (The Bad Guys). And by the other the Puritans, the good ones, I don't know I will list some suggestions:
- The Damned (They Sold their souls and they want to pay them controlling the trading routes)
- The Blinded (They are completely washed by the religion and whatever and whatever)

Or maybe gather races in a different way to form different forces. Like Fire and Water.
Fire - Orcs, Dragons, Barbarians, Goblins, Demons
Water - Undead, Night Elf, Naga, Draenei, Humans

Mh yeah i could think about it, but i mainly choose orcs vs humans because you could combine a riderless horse with a packhorse (when it takes resources from a lumber camp or mine) and there is also a nice packed kodo.

That is an option, but i think that will be a bit lame. I thought about the heroes only being able to fight with they're troops in the middle of the map at the 'crossroads', but they cannot help they're waves with the direct siege of the enemy headquarter.

And if it won't be Orcs vs Humans then i have no idea which races should be against who.

you shouldn't be influenced by the models available in the standard game, just ask for an elven panther with some sacks on its back, or a nerubian with a big backpack, in the "Request" section of The Hive. I'm sure that many people would be glad to help realizing such a good map.

Yeah, you're right, probably I said that Scourge and Sentinel are original, who ever used it? Duh... I hate these who emphasize the obvious.
(I said that either these groups aren't original, or maybe are they???)

That sounds good, but the heros should be naga or NE. Because where would be, for instance, a Fire Warlock hero? A Voidwalker?Thats why I recommend you to always divide the teams between the "good" and the "evil".
I presume that Night Elf are good and Naga are then evil.

NE - The good ones, they are nature protectors, and are fighting for their land, with pride and honor, and they adore their master Maiev. They value each of their allies, fight to protect them and act together.
Naga - The evil, they are rats, subordinated (I wonder if this word exists) to their master Illidan, they are nasty, dirty, wicked, and the fear they have towards Illidan is their motivation to fight. They compair theirselves among them trying to prove they are more useful than their allies.

This sounds perfect to me.
Try to do well-made hero stories, not like dota that each has a different way and they conflict if you gather them.
Good luck in your project.

I can try doing a Snap Dragon with backpack and a Panther with it as well. I dunno.

I say you should do robots (RoboGoblins) and Guitar playing arthas/Assorted awesome Models instead of Anything Vs Anything....

Just make it awesome...
