I dream of making complex badass spells which will bring utter annihilation to the enemies of the casting unit. However I am not too handy with all the triggers that lie behind the spell. This is the affect I am aiming for:

The casting unit (ground unit) flies into the air towards the targeted unit, while burning, at a decent speed. Upon colision with the targeted unit the casting unit dies and inflicts area damage upon the targeted unit.

The initial idea was to make it sort of like a kaboom spell but the goblin (or grot) does not need to close distance; instead he activates a 'mega balsta' thingy and is propelled at an increased speed towards his victim - successfully destroying his hope on escape.

Any help with this question will be much appreciated.

a certain solution would be to create 2 triggers:
1) when casting unit casts the ability, create the HE grot
2) a periodic timer which moves the HE grot towards its target (changing position and height, since he (or it) is flying) and checks that if the grot is near or at its target. and when it does, it dies dealing that damage

Apologies for my ignorance but I do not seem to understand how to create this timer you speak of. Would you by any chance be able to explain that in more depth. And also you may have confused yourself with the affect of the spell. It is meant for the sapper unit and there is no difference between the flying HE grot and the casting unit. In short there is a sapper unit who casts the spell and flies towards the targeted unit exploding upon impact and dealing area-effect damage.

Thank you for the reply.

you can base off your spell from Tiny's Toss (from DoTA). but instead of having a target circle image, you just need to have a spell that targets a single unit and remove any checks for nearby units. check this link
Toss 1.03
although that spell is still unapproved, you can basically see the basics of your spell, since unit that you will be "tossing" is the caster unit and it will "fly" (or maybe in Toss' version jump) towards a target.
