But you can make a trigger that fires with event: Unit - A Aunit Leaves PlayableMapArea --> Kill TriggeringUnit

I believe you can check this without regions by checking the pathability. If it is not walkable and not flyable, kill the unit.
 
What unit can go outside the boundary?

A common way to crash the popular SotDrp map was to create a transport ship with no collision, and sail it off the world bounds. This caused everyone to crash.

It's been fixed of course. No idea if they used your solution.
