Booty Bay (Faceless Ones)

This map contains a race I created for a friendly competition between race creating enthusiasts. It is the Faceless Ones, a race I created loosely based around the template of the Naga. That is, it is created for campaign purposes.

This map is open source, so anyone who wishes to see the mechanics behind some of the features is more than free to. However, if you wish to edit the race in anyway and submit it, do not do this without asking for my permission. Similarly, if you wish to use the race for a campaign of some sort, ask me before hand to avoid any unfriendliness :p

Well...the worker is fine, also the Tier, although there could have been something unique there.
The first unit is boring, as well as the Terror, since they only attack and have nothing else to do.
Gladiator is cool. I really like it.
The spellcaster last spell is rather useless since casters should benefit pretty much the group, not theirselves.
Charge could be different. Maybe if it is like...when you order the Charger to attack someone, it runs 30% faster than moving and starts counting a custom value periodically (per unit). When struck, the damage will be increased with the charging timer.

Interesting idea, all of what I did is unique, however. While the first unit would be classed as 'boring' (like the Mur'gul Reaver :p), the Terror is something quite different. It is a spell immune siege unit. I found this to be an interesting because Siege damage does bonus damage to Unarmoured units, and the Spell Immunity makes them extra effective as an anti-caster. In other words, they are quite the multi-purpose unit.

As for the Charge, while it may be seen as boring, it is quite balanced and is unique in that it simply creates a movement speed bonus, not in addition with attack speed, damage vulnerability increment or even both :p. Mind you, I did originally think of some sort of triggered Charge ability, but decided to try that out for now :p. I too think it's a little boring, but does the job nonetheless :p

Glad you liked the Gladiator, that was one of my favourites. I love Paladon's Jump Spell, it's the best one out there ;). I gave it magic damage so it can hunt down footies more effectively as well as some of the tankier melee units such as the Knight or the Tauren.

I played a bit of that Dwarf Campaign, found it to be interesting enough, I don't really follow lore, tho xD. Name changes could be made to make them more, as you say, 'Faceless Onish' xD. Well, it depends if anyone wants to use it in a campaign or something, they'd be free to change the names of the units, as I only came up with fairly basic names for these race units :p

Hm... I notice someone asked about flying units also, which I had considered, but upon asking my dear friend Alagremm about what flying units they would have in lore, apparantly they don't have any :S
Well, keeping in mind this is a campaign race, perhaps it would be possible to make this more melee capable by combining it with another race like... I'm not sure :p
Any ideas? xD

As for another hero, interesting idea, but remember, it's meant to be simple ATM xD
As it is a pure campaign race based on the Naga xD

The most realistic way of making flying faceless one is a... batrider.
But theres even better idea. Couatle(naga flying unit) skinned purple, and maybe even with a rider(but better without)would be a great addition to the faceless one race.

What is ATM?? XD sorry, I'm a noob, so I don't really know all the terms and stuff, and by the way, I found a bug with the Portal, when you place the "other-side portal", It becomes invulnerable, well, not with an ability, it's just indestructible, and the second time I played the map, I though the portal was indestructible, so I "build" one, but the other side was destroyed by a Golem... so... that's weird, It is meant to be destroyable or not?

Yea, that's what I thought, I wouldn't have it any other way, either xD

Now, the Portal. There is no 'invulnerability' bug, but when the other side is placed, opposing players have a choice. They can either destroy it or attempt to find out where it leads to, as any player can use a Waygate. The Golem destroyed it because it is not indestructible, and I'm not sure what may have made you think it was indestructible xD.

BTW, if either of the Portal ends are destroyed, the other dies instantly, perhaps I should have mentioned that before xD.

Well, I'm going to check again that teleportarion thing ''cause, really, I think there's a bug, I put the other side (the two times I used them) in the gold mine where the golem is, and the first time the golem tried to destroy it, but the portal was invulnerable really, and the second time I did the same but the golem actually destroyed it, but let me check at least other 4 times to be sure xD

And by the way there's a hotkey... don't remember of what spell, but is "H", and the Hold Position command uses that hotkey.

And expect my review soon XD

Well, the question is did you have whosyourdaddy on at the time? Or maybe it was in such a position that the Golem came up to it and simply decided not to attack it? I'm thinking the first possibility is more likely xD

One time while playing it myself I was getting slaughtered by the Humans (let's face it, this race isn't exactly designed for melee gameplay :S), but managed to run away to one of the islands lol. I waited, built up a massive army, charged them and still lost :p
Lol, I'm not exactly the best tactician due to my lack of focus half the time, so I didn't micro-manage at all I don't think, I think the most I did was to use the Leap ability :p.

Oh, and I must give credit to Illidan(Evil)X for the teleportation system, he's the one who actually got it working for me (I had no idea what to do at first :p), and then he generously added the bit of code that destroys the end of a portal when the other has been destroyed.

I think there is something missing in there, well, it covers all the basics, but it could have been much much better, with maybe some hints on how to use the race and maybe a little intro to the new units, try to "hype" the users to make them download the map.

Well, it looks great at a first glance, and new, but I think it needs a little more information.

Well, you put a lot of detail in the intro of the map, quite amazing, and really epic.

As you already said, it lacks balance, but there's no much things you actually need to change, I defeated the humans (well... on easy XD) with your race, but I'm a terrible player, so, it is an easy to use race that just needs a little adjustment.

*N/A Stuff / Bonus* +1
Quests, Hints/Others. You put quests just to add a little information on credits and more, it is an Altered Melee map, so it is not needed at all, that's why you get a bonus point.

I can't say anything here xD

The only weird thing was that thing wth the portal, but... I'm sure it was my mistake, so, is perfect.

Cool units, buildings, and everyting, it looks great, but there's a little issue with one unit's dead animation, I'm not sure which unit, but when it dies there's a weird effect on the other units, it does not affect gameplay, but it definitely looks weird.

*Custom Units* 5/5
Great units, all, nothing to complain about here.

*Custom Spells* 4/5
Must of the spells are basic warcraft spells with a little change, but you managed to create some great abilities even without fancy spells, but the Hyper Metabolism uses the same hotkey as the Hold Position command, so that will take one point, sorry, but that kind of stuff affects the gameplay.

Even in this kind of maps is difficult to make the user returns for more, but you did a great job 5/5

I think is really hard to make an entire new race, I've done it myself, and I can say, it's a torture, but you create a great one, and based on what you said, that is based on the naga, is an excellent job.

You may wonder why 4 if your actual grade was, 4.666, it is a great map, but is not perfect, that why I can't put a 5.

Well, I know this map is far from perfect, so 4/5 is actually the best I could hope for ;)
I submitted this map in the hopes of some people finding it useful, having fun while playing as the Faceless Ones and feeling an overall new experience in gameplay and such. Also, it was lying around doing nothing else, so I figured it could inspire someone in a project or just help out with a trigger or something :p

Map looks nice, you only spammed blizzard cliffs, which is quite a bad thing,, Use Raise terrain and Pathin Blockers instead,,

The race is nice, nice models used and quite a balance there,, The only thing i didnt really like was the mage thing,, Faceless ones are, to me, a brute race with high damage, low armor, you know? I dont really see a faceless one use a mage in Warcraft, it just seems strange to me,, but that is just me ;)

The buildings were quite nice chosen, only the main building didnt appeal to me that much, it just looked like a big purple pilar,,
Other models were nice chosen and the race was good! Only, as said before, no tiers/requirements,, but that has already been answered also,, ;)

Lol, the terrain, for those who do not know, is a melee map created by Blizzard, so the terrain isn't my work :p

Well, if I were to make the Faceless Ones just one particular way, they would be even more imba than they are already, either in the sense they are op for dealing so much damage or up for taking so much damage xD

Creation sounds. most: undeat building proc sounds, but you are making an original race (oh, are you?) and some (isn't it funny?) do use an orcish construction sounds .

If that race is supposed to be a campaing one, in a normal (THIS. IS. NORMAAAAAAL!!!)
campaing there supposed to be a heraldic of race, an epic FAIL...Um...An epic storyline a campaing screen and stuff....
Im sure u can do most work but i can create a heraldick and help with balance :mwahaha: if it IS a project.
Whaevar it is ill make a heraldick

Well, this was created for a little friendly competition, as mentioned before, and was submitted in case someone found it useful, once again as mentioned before. Also, as mentioned before, I am more than happy for someone to use the concept, balancing isn't an issue ATM purely because it is a campaign race, not a melee. The reason you play in a 'normal' map is to display it.

Anyway, I'm more than capable of balancing on my own, but this race was intentionally left out with that process, purely because it was created for campaign purposes.

Orc construction sounds? Lol, sounds fun xD

If I were to include an air unit, I'd do this one ;)
Saves me having to come up with something entirely new xD
That, and it'd be a part of the lore, which would make Alagremm warm inside. And in the end, isn't that why we as humans do anything at all? :p

I'm not sure what abilities I'd give it yet, though, I'm tempted to give it a bouncing attack, but that's because I'm thinking of Castle Fight :p. I would come up with something if I were still working on this map xD

Old Gods and forgotten and faceless ones cant grow in cave too.
Just like sludge monstrosities, kobolds, skeletons, unbroken, nerubians, and other bugs.

So, from the Blizzards and Warcarft point of view, this is more than possible.

Suggesting bug-fixes, should I? :razz:

Okay, the polish level is good, you did a nice job in there, however:

1. Reaper's Counterstrike is obviously imbalanced, check evasion and you'll see that it's too much powerful, nerf the evasion chance a bit.
2. Gladiator's Leap is quite nice, but buggy. It has an AoE selection circle, while it should target a point. Also, it leaves a dummy for the Owner of the unit that lasts too long (it had sight and was visible in the minimap too :hohum:)
3. Darkweaver Master Training has "..." instead of the spell name.
4. Use a Borderizer for Passive and Infocard icons.
5. DO NOT GIVE TO THE UPGRADES OF A CUSTOM RACE A CLASSIFICATION LIKE "ORC". If you do this, the orc players will never be able to achieve 100% on technology score. Just a nitpick.

Well-done object editor spells, BTW. :thumbs_up:

If I should, I'd rate it 4/5, 4.5/5 if you fix the bugs above.

Also yes, a flying unit is needed. :xxd:

Naga is not even finished by blizzard i thnik that most not be base race.. No air units, only 1 caster, 1 hero, no long ranged vulnerable siege unit, no upgrades to basic units, only 1 secondary units baracks, and no drop point for lumber.
If u fix those the race would be great. Like this i can only give it a 3.
