Best Gaming PC (opinions)

I've been looking into getting a new PC but im not sure which one is TRULY the best gaming system out their. I know the REALLY good ones can be up to 3 grand but im looking for one more around the 1000-1500 range (i'm cheap)
anyways I was just wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on what I could look at getting.

Yah, pretty much wath that upperguy said. For a change, if you're not sympathizing DirectX 10, and still have a copy of Windows XP, then throw away Windows Vista fromt he list. Also get 3 GBs of Kingston DDR2 800MHz instead of what upperguy baffled, if you're going to stick with Windows XP.
Obviously, with that sum of money you could also invest in water-cooling system (but do so only if you wish to overclock). Of course, sound card could also be a good decision, especially when you're using quality headphones. Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty could be a viable option.

Instead of a quad core, you might try investing in a wolfdale dual core (Intel Core 2 8000 series), as you won't need 4 cores most likely for gaming, plus you can overclock it a good 500-1000MHz on air cooling which gives you quite a boost.

i will suggest the following hardware:

processor-AMD Phenom...it is better than the intel quad core.

video card-Radeon 4870...25% faster than the GTX 280 and half the price

thats about all i would suggest, go with crossfire technology over SLI

ATI > Nvidia

Do not listen to that fool above. The Phenom was poorly recieved by EVERYONE, not just the gaming community. Intel is definitely the way to go for the time being.

As for videocards? He's again wrong. Right now, Nvidia is dominating the market over ATi, after it's slew of bad releases.

RAM? Go with 4 GB's. It's great for multitasking and easily affordable. If you want to be less cheap, look for RAM with a higher busrate, 800 MHZ and higher being premium quality.

XP is still the way to go. DX10 hasn't unleashed any startling new opportunities for gamers. Yet.

I hate to ½ disagree with you Brad (although I completely agree about the Intel CPUs being better than AMDs current offerings), but...

Right now the Radeon 4800 series does offer better price/performance than the current GeForce cards. It doesn't mean the GeForce cards are a bad choice, just that ATI is currently a good choice for someone looking to build a high-powered gaming machine.

The higher the model number, the better. And the really expensive ones, such as the FireGL are not for gaming. They're for professional/corporate use. Incredibly powerful, for real CGI/animation work, etc.

Or don't. Alienware is retardedly expensive, and it's way cheaper just to purchase the components yoursdelf and build your own.
