Belgariad Strategy
By: Erlend aka Dr. itsekk (contact information at the bottom)
This map is a multiple team strategy game with spawn system. Not really very unlike Age of Quendi or Battle for Middle Earth, but also special (I think). The map is still under developing, but I have based the entire game on the Belgariad bookseries by David Eddings. The reason I am posting it here is that I need help with both ideas and actually creating the game.
I seek a partner (or two), with some experience hopefully with these types of games. Of course it would be a bonus to actually have read the books. I hope some have read them. Most importantly i need to settle the spawn system and most likely some help triggering it.
This is only draft and I would gladly reconstruct everything from the beginning.
Game basics and current status:
The game consists of 10 players (maybe one 1 or 2 less) distributed in 3 teams. As I said it uses a spawn system. I am considering just how to create it, but right now I am going to use a castle spawn system (I think u know what I mean). This is maybe the largest problem so far. By today’s date I have only made one fraction called: Cherek. It’s a Viking like north western country.
This is a draw of the map from the book, and the minimap of my game. (U can see I haven’t created any more terrain than just Cherek. (Note that the northern island isn’t created yet.)
Gold system: Each player starts with a certain number of cities in their territory. Each will give you 10 gold every spawn time. The gold be used to upgrade castles (or it could be a lumber system for towers and stuff)
Teams and Nations
Alorns (team 1):
Cherek: As I told before they are a northern, Viking like country (see map above). They are famous for their ships and sailors. And they will start with a native hostile threat nearby. Their enemies can gain control by these forces. Therefore you have to take them down quickly. The hostiles will also grow in numbers if u doesn’t kill them.
Drasnians: Cherek’s eastern neighbours. They are manly a trade nation, famous for both their spies and agents. Also they are known for their pikemen.
Algaria: Grassy nomad country. They use horses for travelling and combat. Little or no infantry. Known for their hate against Murgos
Riva and Disciples of Aldur: Control the only island, Riva. They have also more and some stronger heroes. Theese are some of the main characters in the book series. They will have certain special events.
There are four Alorian countries, and I am considering reducing it to 3 or maybe less.
Not sure where they belong^^:
Sendaria: It is a country of mainly farmers, and has little military power. However they have much to say in the main story. I am considering adding them to the Alorns or The western nations.
Western nations: (team 2)
Arendia: They are like an old medieval country of knights. The People consist of both Arends and Mimbres. The arends live in the northern woods and are great archers. The Mibres however is the ones who rule ht country. They have much heavy armoured units and knights.
Tolnedra: Huge trading empire controlled by a royal family. Their military is the Tolnedran legions. These can be compared to the old roman legions.
Angaraks: (team 3)
Chtol Murgos: The largest nation of the western angaraks. They will most likely be the strongest nation in the game. It’s a slavery country lead by a mad king seeking domination. The parts of Cthol Murgos shown in the game is only a very small part of it (google: “belgariad map” if u wanna know more). I can’t think of any special units, except the gromlin priests, and some assassins (can’t remember their name).
Mishrak Ac Thull: Inhabited by stupid Thulls. They are mostly just dummies controlled by the Cthol Murgos (and the malloreans to the east, but that’s kind of a different story).
Gar og Nadrak: They export lots of fur and other hunting wares. They don’t have a typically organised military.
As you all see I don’t have much info and thought about how to develop all the fractions in the game, but I think it’ll settle as I get started. Basically everybody except the Angaraks is good guys in the book.
Heroes:
I will use characters from the books. There is quite clear which heroes I will use. Most likely each player will have 2-3 heroes. I could use some cool models and spells, if anybody wants to take the challenge.
I hope somebody will consider this. You can get me anytime at: [email protected]
If you haven’t read the books I will gladly recommend them.
