Beer beer 0.55

This was our entry for the Hive's first "Paired Mapping Contest", where BEER BEER was ultimately ranked second. Since the version we entered for the contest had been far from finished, we still continue working since then :)

BEER BEER is a hero defence map where teamplay is very important. All heroes are part of the town's guard, which has been partying really hard and is taken by surprise as the bad guys launch their attack! Therefore they have to continue consuming booze and stay drunk all the time, else they'll suffer from a hangover and would thus be uncapable of fighting.

It is no coincidence that the map version is still declared as 0.55. We are still having plenty of ideas for more items, heroes, bosses, mini-games/events etc. which we still plan to implement. Please follow the information in this thread if you are interested. We will keep you guys informed!

Earlier this fall, we finally started to work on the map again. This upload updates the map from version 0.28 to 0.34 and comes with many changes. Some bugs have been fixed, balance has been improved (both between classes and in PvE lineups). There's also a bulk of new items that allow for further specialization of classes and other fun features. Expect the next versions with even more items, abilities (and fun!;)) to be ready in less time than this one.

Work on the map continues! The most evident change in this version is the new loadingscreen. This version also comes with plenty of balance changes, especially for the Paladin, Warlock and Shadow Priest who (even though maybe harder to play than other classes) can now be regarded as equivalently strong compared to other classes. We still didn't implement armors yet, but expect these soon!

Well, we confess that the "expect armors soon" thing wasn't so true. But after a half year break, we are finally back to mapping. I just finished this new version which mainly comes with small bug and balance changes, most balange changes related to waves and especially bosses. However, we have some more ideas, especially concerning armors...so maybe...not going to promise anything this time, though ;)

October 2012 was finally the time when, after three years, we fixed the return bug. This version, however, doesn't only allow you to play again. The change from v0.38 to v0.55 comes with many changes. Please read the posts on page #5 of this thread for more details.

The map is funny but I played it public(I hosted it) At lvl 10 I upguarded to cannon and at 20 to mortar team the funny spell whit the 3 helicopter which bomb the enemys don´t dissapear they where just very high in the air and if you see them they block the whole cam (if here are some grammatic mistakes sry I am not the best in English)

Hey is it ME or that i picked the INT hero at the start, and it says AGI as it's main stat point.... shouldn't it be INT since it's an INT hero. Same thing when i change at lvl 10. still AGI as main stat point not INT....or is it like that?

It's meant to be like this. When you hover the Stat-info-thingie you will see why: int is basically meant as an attribute for attack damage and armor, strength simply for hit points and int basically for spellcrit. Since therefore INT does after all greatly increase all caster's capabilities, you won't need agility. We choose to arrange attributes this way because we didn't want casters who skill INT only (which also reduces "alcohol decay", meaning it increases manareg) to gain lots of normal attack damage too. Casters have to, and certainly can, rely on their spells for that :)

Great job on the map. I'd love to see it finished. This is a one of a kind castle/hero defense with all the elements you'll ever need. I just hope that you will allow the warrior to evolve into something else than the champion. The map is great and I hope you will add some mini-quest to do outside the castle also. But the ending cinematic is a bit bugged. The units kill each other before the panda gets the chance to finish his first transmission. 9.5/10 since it has a leak in the cinematic. (But I voted 10) I'm almost relived that me and Hamster didn't get our map finished to the contest, we could never have competed against this!

Thanks for the feedback Jedi! We definitly plan to add miniquests between the waves. Unhit even jassed some kind of towerdefence, where you sit inside of the tower and shoot in first-person-perspective! :D

Also there will be more items, gamemodes (-ar, -tournament[3vs3vs3]) and ouf course more heroes. As to the Warrior, we think about adding a Rogue (also available from Rifleman) and maybe a Gladiator evolution. :)

Yeah the final battle thingie is a terrible bug, I accidently set players on hostile before the transmission was over, pretty stupid :p this and other things have been fixed in the latest version I will upload when the contest's voting is over. Future versions will include events outside the town, just as you wished ;) and also for example the tower defence stuff. We will try to implement as much as possible as soon as possible. Thanks again!

I've discovered some typo mistakes:
When you click to learn Quick Aim (Marksman) instead of Level 7/8/9 stats you see Level 4/5/6 stats. And also, when the buff appears after you've learned Quick Aim, attack speed is spelled together: 'attackspeed'. Same typo mistake on Hunting Dog's Fury ability, it's spelled incorrect. And when you learn Feral Heart Level 2, the ability says: 'Feral Heart Level 1'.

All things mentioned above are reffering to Marksman/Hunting Dog and their abilities.

Also, when you buy a 'Long Rifle' from Blacksmith Barleybrew you get a sword instead of a ranged weapon.

I dont know why but when i host your map the song doesnt replay so i opened World Editor and made a trigger for it, i hope you dont mind, i didnt put anything for me all i did was a trigger for the song, i dont know if its me or the game, if you dont want me to host a "fake" version then just tell me and i will host the normal one.

Hey! That's perfectly allright, thanks for telling us about it though! Usually, the song does reply. It doesn't loop indefinitely though, there's always breaks of a few seconds to three minutes or so between each loop. Maybe that confused you ;)
Anyway, enjoy playing with the music :)

Dont give up your map is real good!!! keep working on it and it will SURELY be famous (the only problem is the file size which makes ppl leave cuz they dont want to wait like 4 mins each DL)mayb taking off the music or compressing it would surely increase DL speed (or protecting the map im 100% sure it would kill like 50% of the file size)

Thanks for your positive feedback! I already tried protectors/encryption stuff for the music problem, but it didn't help. We considered removing the music pretty often so far, but in the end we always decided it was too important for the feeling of the map, so we always left it in.

We are trying to work on the new version with armors and shields (something we had promised for ages already, as you may know), but the last few months we just lacked motivation. You can, however, help us by suggesting item boni for said items (armors and shields) that wouldn't be too immense (like five different things on one item), but provide a cool bonus. That might also help us working on the whole thing faster:D

SHIELDS
the most shitty shield: Crap shield! (made of the item "crap") that shield give... 5 armor? lol also a stinking aura(which dmg's nearby ppl! LoL)! (or a "cow shit" made shield Oo)
Heavy plate shield (mostly like for kingsguard and captain) which gives some negative move speed and gives some nice block chance and armor
Light Shield: gives some real good block but negative armor or 0 armor
its bonus: movement speed and agility
Iron Shield: gives some descent armor and a little block (

COATS/ARMORS:
Meat Coat: gives some armor and auto-taunts nearby ppl to attack him! lol (the armor bonus shud b high cuz of the taunt)
Silk cloth robe : gives some bonus to movement speed but reduces armor!(also gives int if u guys want)

BOSSES
there shud be an inconome instead of bounty by killing the boss... because mages can easily KS them and priests can never get any money

A new class maybe? Voodoo man! Description: He has some big & bad voodoo's mom!
spells:

Voodoo heal: a chain heal! that would b surely helpfull! (however that shouldn't heal alot)

Voodoo renew: instead of renewing an ally it is castable at an enemy! it deals Dmg per second!

Voodoo Doll: a voodoo doll that when ppl attack him they take damage(or u choose a target enemy and u get a new unit somewhere on the map and it has some skills like poke him with a needle, punch his head,etc... but that makes u lose the control of ur hero!)
ULTIMATE: ? =/

Drunk Sushi Man: Hes a drunk man who throws sushi at his enemies like a drunk homie!
Spells:

Sushi: heals a targeted ally for some nice HP but thats NOT ranged and its a heal over time which doesnt dispell when attacked

Fish: Fishes at the lake to get some fish which gives stat bonus(either permanent or not)

Bash with a sushi: bashes a guy with a big fish!!! lol (stunz + deal some dmg)

Ultimate: Cod of War: disgueses himself in a costume of a Cod which gives him more HP move speed, damage and enables him to swim! lol

oh ye the sushi man's fishing skill should spawn a guy who fishes for him, cuz leaving combat to fish... he would lose alot of EXP

SHIELDS:
Spiked Shield: a shield who gives some armor (or 0) and deals DMG ONLY when it blocks an attack (gives some STR)
Candy Shield: a shield who slows atackers cuz its sticky! you can also eat it to heal HP! LoL(infinite charges)

COATS/ARMORS:
Shadow Robe: gives invisibility when used so u can run away when theres alot of archers shotting on u at once or when ur trapped! (should give negative armor or 0 armor cuz invis is real good!)

Plate Armor Of Taunting:
Gives some nice armor bonus and can taunt nearby enemies, so they stop attacking the king! (negative move speed)

TRINKETS:
Fake Powerfull Dragon's Roar: Rawrs (shouts) real loud, making all enemies in a "X" AoE run in fear! (melee classes only)

i will try to help as much as i can! DONT give up you guys have a real good map in your hands!! (oh well if u guys lack in motivation to do all this then atleast tell/teach me how to do and i will continue Beer Beer! :p!)

Thanks for the quick reply! Some of your ideas are really cool and we'll consider them. The voodoo guy is a good hero idea, as we already thought about including something like a shaman. It would fit well in that line! We'll let you know when there's an update.

COATS/ARMORS:
Fel Iron Breast Plate: gives you some green aura which burns nearby enemies, gives some good armor (not cheap)
Shiny chest armor: Gives low armor and when used blinds nearby enemies! lol(like a -50% chance to hit)

running out of ideas!! lol

SHIELDS:
Meaty Shield: gives some armor. Special: when used, alot of blood is "spitted" on the ground by the shield, and whoever go on them gets slowed or stunned (slipped)


Trinket: Glue Trap: Drops some glue on the ground, slowing enemies

Sticky Trap: Dropds some sticky stuff on the ground, slowing enemies and their attack speed

COATS/ARMORS:
Fading Robe: When used, gives 50% chance to make all atacks miss against you, (either descreases or increases armor), also passively increases dodge rate by 10% (or 5)

Ogre's Monocle: (armor slot (or head if u guys put, destroy the evolituon item and replace with a skill which automatically comes when u reach lv 10) Gives some int, increases attack range, and u can point it to the sun, so it will be real shiny and will blind some enemies! lol

Hey guys! I just finished work on the latest version which comes with a couple of bug and balance changes. The most notable differences are in bossfights, where bounty is now shared among players (thanks for that suggestion!). On top of that, the pitlord fight has some (hopefully) cool new special effect and increased action. I do not want to promise anything regarding armors now this time, but well, it's always good to be back at mapping. Might start a spree! ;)

//Edit: in an awesome online game we just had, I hat to notice that the bounty thing doesnt quite work yet. Will try to fix that asap! Meanwhile, enjoy the new pitlord bossfight :D

Shield:
Captain America's Shield!: Gives some nice block chance but low armor, and u can throw it at your enemies! (either bounces or not)

Description: Buy this toy and get this shield for free! This promotion will last until stocks last.

Trinket:
Ugly Mask: When used makes all enemies (also allies if u guys want) run in fear!
description: it has beem used for some bad voodoos mom!

make some shop which upgrades the junk u start with like the "A guy who fights like a cow sold you this" item (i forgot what it is) make it upgrade into a coat/trinket which gives u alot of move speed!



P.S. Supression (shadow priest's spell) has SAME hotkey as Horror (or something like that) so supression stay with no hotkey =/ (if it doesnt then make another letter yellow cuz its still supRession)

running out of ideas...
but im still going 2 try to give u guys as much ideas as i can ^^

Thanks a lot! I really like the Ugly Mask idea, this might be a nice crowd control trinket to go along with the big book of pirate insults.

Thanks for the remark about the hot key collizion. Giving the shadow priest the horror ability was one quick thought, we just put it in, saved...and didnt think about it much: the ability was already in the game and we knew it would run flawless once casted...so we didn't bother much about the hotkeys. Thanks a lot, will be fixed in the next uploaded version!

Yummy/tasty Meat (or any other kind of meat): makes all mobs go there and "eat it" (makes then focus attack or something on the meat, making them unable to hit anyone else!)
description (well yeah change it i dont think its the best (also for all my other descriptions i made)): 100% natural! "you read on the Nutritional sign: 2g of trans fat"

sooo yeh.. when dah new ver is guna come out?? playing with hotkey collizion is painfull..

(no idea the class of this item, mayb just something buyable like the + stats scrolls) coat a weapon with poison!: slow poison, a poison which reduces healing done to the poisoned target, a dmg/s poison!

Useables:Bomb: automatically turns into a spell so it wont go into ur inventory and when used it disappers! (so u cant use it again lol)

consumable: hp pot (+ a mp pot 2..): also turns into a spell which when used disappers to not use again

a berserking pot which gives atk speed! )and increases dmg received if u want)

a flying pot!: enables u to fly, so the huge army of mobs wont trap u! LoL

Hey there! Thanks for all the suggestions again...can't quite keep up with it because the lat two weeks were very busy for both frooker and me. We already have a new version with a couple of things changed, though, but are a bit uncertain about releasing it already because that would mean breaking the armor promise once more :p but I agree that the hotkey collizion is REALLY annoying....played with it once, and already launched the WE while still ingame :D

That's if we have spontaneous ideas for one single thing and just think it's too cool to not be implemented immediately :p you'll see what we mean with the next version :D armors are really the next thing on our agenda though, as you can see in our second but latest blog post.

what about a Two-handed weapon (an axe or a hammer) which gives ALOT of damage but has a slow swinging speed and it gives negative armor? like +150 dmg and -30 armor (melee)

i think this wep should be useable by Kingsguard even if hes a tank, because with that big health + this weapon, even if he loses alot of armor he can deal massive damage and his big health wont let him die so easily (also make last boss stronger, because we kill him without any casuality, either a cleaving attack or alot of armor + stronger summoned mobs)

and if possible, make another shop with some "weapon upgrades" make a leaderboard (for the player who bought only) which shows the current stock of the "upgrade" (like you buy the AoE attack for your gun, it comes with... 100 charges? the leaderboard shows how many charges you still have, and this would be a good way to spend your money after you buy all the armors and weapons), for gunners, make some special powder to give either an AoE attack or a poisoning (o_O) attack, for staves, something like a "fireball" which wanders around your staff and when you attack, the fireball gets more tiny (either more damage or an AoE damage) (like if a part of it were thrown - and it should be easy to put the graphic, just add the item orb of fire effect on the hero) an iceball too, to slow down ppl and for melee people, a poisoned weapon or a weapon coated in beer, making all mobs who have been hit by it get drunk and have like 15% of chance to miss attacks, a "windfury" enchancement on the weapon (yes i play WoW lol) which increases attack speed (this would be surely good with the Two-handed weapon), a lava enchancement, when the mob gets hit he burns for some damage over time (for this enchancement you guys could simply use the ignite (or whatever its called) spell from the lava hero (from the tavern, the one who spawns lava minions and makes a volcano)

o well.. thats IF those stuff is possible, which i think would be surely hard to make :sad:

Thanks again for all your suggestions! I just wanted to post to let you know that we read them, and we consider and discuss it all. We might not implement all of it, but some things we will, and some others we surely use as inspiration. Right now, we are enjoying our summer holidays and I for my part am still dreaming of the awesome holiday I had a week ago. But some time, there will be updates for sure!

Thanks a lot for the remark! As we never used any 3rd party tools for the WE, I didn't expect there to be any problems with the patch, but obviously there are. I'll get to work on it and upload a fixed version asap. Please don't be disappointed that this one won't contain armors yet (well, it does, they just aren't ready yet). It also has two really really minor unfinished things with two little spells, but comes with a lot of cool new things instead. I hope you can appreciate that in the light that this is an emergency update.

P.S.: when your mana (or alcohol) reaches 0, you just lose alot of HP till u reach like 1 or 5 HP and you dont die, is that a bug or not? because i just read the beer beer pired mapping contest of Frooker and he said if u run out of alcohol you die, but in the game you dont! (sometimes you do)

& i also wanna be a tester!


idk why but i cannot host any of the beer beer maps anymore, even the oldest versions! when i click it says: Game not found and if i try again WC3 crashes!! Oo

That is exactly what I mean - as of patch 1.24 and the changes to handle vars on which the map greatly relies, it can't be played any more. We will have to rewrite code in at least half of the triggers, and this is an annoying and time-consuming business. Terribly sorry for that!

And yes, you don't die any more. You used to die, but we changed that as a kind of newbie-protection because those always died all the time in public b.net games :D

why dont u put the death by 0 mana only enabled on difficulties hard or +? (or at normal)

and how that mess up of code happened if i didnt download any new ver? it even happened to lots of other maps i have!! >.<

Yes, it's because of the game patch. All those maps used custom functions that don't work any more now, unfortunately...so a lot of mappers will have to do a LOT of work :(

about the difficulties and hitting 0 mana: yeah, we considered that, but so far we've liked the current solution, even on hard.
