whoop, I was wondering if there was any legitimate way of getting my hands on a 3ds max 5 copy now, since Autodesk only offer their most recent products?

If you can not find any shop that sells the version you are looking for, then you are out of luck. I'd prefer if companies kept the opportunity to eventually downgrade their products, if desired, but that's often a wish that won't ever come true.

I think there are still some stores that sell max 5. I am not sure, though. Well, I bought max 2011 sadly it doesn't support mdx exporting and some plug-ins for warcraft 3 such as the art tool.

Hey, I got 3ds max a long time ago for free, but I did register as a student(didn't know what they meant with student.. but I am a student and I want to learn 3d modeling) but there was some disadvantages to it.. dunno if they still do that..

Hmm.. Aren't pirating not allowed to be discussed here?
