Application used to make special effects/skin

A lot of them are actually made through triggers. Usually you'll combine smaller effects to make smaller effects. See these pics to see the potential of math combined with simple effects:

And there are tons of GUI spells in our spells section that you can learn from.

If you want to create actual models for effects, there are a number of tools. More complicated ones may require more complicated editors, but you can do quite a bit with Magos' Model Editor. See this tutorial series:
