Alright, this can not be to hard to manage..

Why doesn't blizzard skins have animations? Imagine the possibilities in the artistic regions of the game!

    Or does it?
    I dont know..

If it isn't possible, then why?
Someone should really talk with Blizzard about this, can not be hard to program that shit in..

    What do you think?

Well, lets look at it from a Computer Scientists view.

Each animation is atleast 1024*1024 pixels. Each pixel is 32 bits (8 red, 8 blue, 8 green and 8 alpha). Ontop of that there are many texture layers in SC2, their specs I do not know and generally they are less than 32 bits per pixel. The normal flat texture alone are 4 MB each. With 10 of them (what is needed for a good animation) you are looking at 40 MB of graphic RAM for the standard textures alone. This alone is more than WC3 needed at recommended.

As for it being impossible... Well actually it probably is totally possible but it just does not make any sense. It is much better to apply an animation to the mesh or an effect like distortion than to actually create an animated texture as you will end up with a lot better results for much less effort and space.

Haven't investigated SC2 editor deeply yet, but WC3 had animated textures.

Animated textures in Warcraft 3 were done by animating the UV's of a model, not the actual texture map. It's not sure if SC2 will have the exact same system War3 used, but it's highly likely.

The Water Elemental in War3 had an animated texture. You can also look at the tracks on the Steam Tank.

For the sake of our GI'd friend, and to introduce his splendid information to the discussion.

Also, look at sooo many of the particle textures.

the water element actually have multiple textures which overlap themselves in an animation which looks like the texture is moving but its really just multiple ones, check with magos yourself

I wasn't going to make anything myself, actually I dont think I will continue my map making, I have other business IRL to take care of

Mostly Im just curious about Galaxy Editor, want it to be perfect for all of you guys, not that I care about you, I care about the awesome maps you will make that I will be able to play

Im mostly just trying to understand what kind of maps there will be, how they will be made and how they will look, out of curiosity :)

To implement a feature wich allows animated skins was just an idea, with that information I could immagine many opportunities

Didn't sc2 have video textures? Or is that totally different? Like the floating Tv's in sc2 with video adds on them. Those are technically animated.
