What happened to my edited map!!

Can some one explain to me or at least give some possibilities as to what may have happened when I tried to save an edited map in SC2.

Further clarification: I edited an original SC2 map (worked on it for several hours) and then went to save as > different name

The program seems to have saved the map alright but didn't save any of the changes!!!

Any input would be appreciated

Check and see if you're opening the right one..?
Also make sure you have privileges to edit that map.

Make sure you did not have 2 maps open at the same time in SC2E. SC2E has poor integrity so I had it making changes to the wrong map when 2 or more maps are open (despite the correct map being selected as the active map).

I'm really not sure what the problem was guys, (it was actually my son that was having the problem) from what I've heard (mostly growling) its a tough editor to use.

As a general rule: Save often, doesn't matter what program you use, you save all the time.

Depends on how complex a save is. Some programs can take a long time to save. An example is WorldEdit for WC3 where saving a complex map could take 1-2 minutes.
