2- Winds of the Storm

The Saga of Azeroth PART 2 - Winds of the Storm (unfinished)
Known as "The Fall of Azeroth" in the Original Campaigns Credits Teaser

This campaign was created by Deicide
Special thanks to Anaxie for uploading it for Deicide on his behalf.

Sequel to the campaign made back in 2003
The Saga of Azeroth - Coming of the Horde

The Campaign is unfinished and will never likely be finished but I think a large amount of people would like to play the unfinished Part 2 of one of the greatest custom Campaigns of Warcraft 3

~ Inside the editor you will find all the loading screens for the levels that were never created
~ You will find the names of all the missions that could of been
~ Items Carry over from the first Campaign

And you will find 4 fully playable missions and 2 interludes that primarily focus on the Humans of Stormwind.

Included also is the Unfinished Map 7 FoA7 for Fall of Azeroth
DeicideUH said:
A few words on Part 2:

There are four playable missions. The available maps were all tested, but some bugs and typos may remain.

Some of the maps are very hard.

The campaign is the opposite of the first one: focus on humans, and would have a few orc levels. I was only able to work on human maps (the first unfinished one would be the start of the orc part).

In the third mission, I used a certain group of renegade humans that shouldn't exist during this period. In the final version, I would have changed the name of the group to avoid confusion.

The second and fourth missions were my favorite maps. I'm really proud of them, full of story, and with twists (both seem to end... only for you to find out that no, they didn't end. There's more to be done!)

There's a few secret triggers in these maps that would matter later in the campaign. In essence, your actions in a map would change things near the end of the campaign. For instance, doing the optional quest in the first mission would give you an extra hero and troops in the end map. There's also a hidden item that you collect in mission 2 that turns into a powerful item in later missions.

Also included in my drive folder are test maps that I was working for at the time. Man, it's been 15 years. Time flies...

It's so great to see, even after 15 years the second part uploaded, even if unfinished. Anyway to my review: Prologue - Found no issues. Chapter 1 - Zion's abiities are useful, but i would've liked to see some custom spells - After defeating all...

Approved. Maybe @DeicideUH could provide a credits list with the resources used.

Just finished this. I have to admit I enjoyed it more than i thought I would. The first playable level was a particularly nice intro mission. I even got used to the sound that would ping every-time a character talked. Glad to see what was meant to be...

Set to Awaiting Update based on @tulee's comments. Changes made, Approved.
I'm not gonna lie i was pretty disappointed with this one.

Its like it was made to be played with cheats on. The power imbalances was ridiculous but not only that. Even with cheats on this was just insane.

There is like 1 base building mission and its done pretty poorly. Usually a lot of maps. Can be improved via slight polish. But this needs to be worked from the ground up.

2/5

I really enjoyed playing through this campaign, it was awesome ! But there are definitely a couple of issues which others have already mentioned. Here is what I think of it (spoilers):

1. it's just... kinda easy ! the heroes you control are OP (or more like the summons are just too spammable), plus you get waaay too many consumables and runes

2. the custom soundtracks and models are really nice, the terrain design is neat and really cool in chapter 4

3. most of the quests are well done but 3 of them feel kinda off: the jewel one in the first chapter (bandits usually do a lot more than just rob people ahem.. plus they don't steal from just one individual, they usually ransack the entire town/village), the giants one in the second chapter (it was fun fighting them but it was weird seeing such "mythical creatures") and the fountains one in the third chapter (Uther has Healing Wave, Clerics have Heal, I didn't use the fountains of health at all)

4. heroes' abilities don't make sense

5. I destroyed everything on the maps, including the towers in the second chapter.. Aggravatus is the hardest boss compared to every other one, you just kinda have to move your heroes a lot during the fight.. I think I lost only 2 buildings in chapter three, it would have been more challenging if the elementals had spells or maybe better stats (they were just creeps really and were no match for guard towers)

6. Aegwynn and Medivh shout at each other and cast spells around as if it's a comic book fight

7. as in the first campaign, there are lore discrepancies.. like why is there present the Defias Brotherhood ? they get formed only after the Second War and would imply Varian being king of Stormwind and not Llane; also why is Khadgar old and Medivh still alive ? Khadgar gets old during Medivh's last fight against his apprentice and Anduin Lothar - the fight ends with Medivh dying... and you did have lore sources at that time to confirm it: The Last Guardian was published in 2002.. I know your campaigns do not represent a copy of the canon, but still, these lore details are kinda off

8. maybe there should have been forest trolls instead of jungle ones in chapter 3

9. my favourite chapters are 2 and 4

I'll stop nitpicking so much cause then the list is gonna get longer =))

I feel bad for the dwarves at the end.. they have no idea what's coming to them in Khaz Modan....

Overall, the campaign is great ! I played on 1.26, I didn't use any cheats. Yes, in terms of gameplay, some sections can be imbalanced but not impossible. I don't really understand people saying that it's really hard, I think you just need more patience (and more saves..). I recommend giving it a try :infl_thumbs_up: I feel like it might be harder for those who aren't very well accustomed with wc3 basics etc but then again the heroes are very powerful. I could have highlighted some bothersome aspects from the first campaign as well in the comment for that one but I felt like it was Deicide's first try with this lore setting (The First War) so he needed more experience I guess. I thought this second campaign might be a bit improved in some areas but it isn't. It also didn't feel like much of a challenge, it felt more like a grind, especially during chapter 2.. I'm not saying that it's necessarily bad because I personally enjoyed all the chapters... wish there were more than 4 chapters

Thanks for the experience ! It's a 4/5 for me, good luck with anything you're doing right now in life :pgrin:

The Coming of the Horde and Winds of the Storm I can't imagine how inspired the creators of these campaigns must have been to create such dialogues between the characters and such a synchronicity between dialogues and music; between action and music for each level. I can't stop enjoying it and they surprise me with an even better one at every next level and again and again.

These games may have some flaws, but I've been too enthralled to pay much attention. And after they run smoothly on 1.27..... Amazing campaigns. They literally blew my hat off. Thank you very much.

Hello, I'm currently in Chapter 2. In Chapter 1 I dislike that so many mana potions etc. drop.
I didn't even need the knight at all. He died in vain. The difficulty is not well done IMO.
I really like the music though. Is this from warcraft 1-2?
I keep this post updated..

Too many summon units makes it too easy. Starfall has the same hotkey as Force of Nature
which is annoying. Too much heal potions drop. Also too much use of the same creatures.
I like that the map is so big and the story is also not bad but where is the challenge?
No one is a match for my summons.

I'm done honestly.

I'm not gonna lie i was pretty disappointed with this one.

You guys should reevaluate the rating, methinks. Whether you find it too difficult, too easy or not too much melee oriented is not necessarily feedback but rather taste.

In the fifth chapter it does not work at all and gives an error. When I try to run this company in Russian or English, it doesn't work at all. It seems to me that there are a lot of bugs there, but I have version 1.26a, 1.31 and the last one is Refogard
What version is this company built?

I am so glad I found this on an Youtube video.. it's such a shame it will never be finished.

I remember the first part of this campaign from way back in the day (and recently replayed it as well), and despite its flaws, it's one of my favorites. This one showed a lot more promise. Still some issues, especially the second map just being Too Big, but I really enjoy Deicide's approach to cinematic storytelling. The first map in particular felt more RPG-like than most things in Warcraft, and the whole thing really felt like the Horde was a nearly apocalyptic threat that the handful of mages you play as kept barely escaping from with their lives. Which, to me, is an impressive feeling to evoke, when this game trends more towards power fantasy and invincibility is one cheat code away.

Too bad it wasn't finished, but it was really neat to see the parts that were completed after all these years.

Winds of the Storm is an amazing unfinished sequel to the popular first part of the Saga of Azeroth - Coming of the Horde, which would have been so cool to see finished. Coming to this campaign directly after the first part, its clear how many cool improvements and new ideas this campaign had over the original, and I love how this time it was meant to focus more on the humans with probably 2 missions of the orcs in between like the first one.

PLAYED ON VERSION: 1.27b

PLAYTIME: ~6.5 hours (the missions are LONG and there are 4 of them)

STORY:
This continues to be a strong point in this campaign even if the fact that its unfinished hurts it a little bit because we never get to see what everything is building up to. But the little we do see of the story is very fun and intriguing. We see Medivh and Aegwynn's glorious duel before she was banished to another place, we play as Khadgar in two of the missions, we also see the Defias Brotherhood at this point for some reason (?) and we also take help from a few dwarves to save Anduin Lothar from the Deadmines and help him find the Tomb of Divinity, all pretty cool stuff honestly. I especially loved the first mission where it was super chill and it gave me the vibes of playing a fun RPG mission, almost like The Founding of Durotar missions where Zion ran from one villager to the next doing errands. BTW, I am pretty sure Zion the Nethercaster isn't a real character in Warcraft lore and is probably fanmade for this campaign. Oh, ALSO, it was cool to play as Uther in this campaign too even if his skillset seems a bit weird? Why is he a cleric? He has Far Sight?

One thing I never really understood though was how far this campaign is set from the events of the first one, because when did Lothar get captured like that? Last we saw him in the first campaign he gave Kagesama a good beating and was still with Zion. Also the cutscene at the end of Chapter 2 where Aegwynn, Khadgar and Zion are saved by human troops was super cliche to me lol. It was funny how the Orc troops just suddenly stood there because they were "preparing for battle" even though they had been chasing them for so long. And Aegwynn is shown to "nearly die" by exerting herself but then she is suddenly all fine lol. Nevertheless, I still really enjoyed the story cutscenes of this one.

COMBAT/DIFFICULTY:
Unsurprisingly this campaign is similar to the first one in terms of difficulty, its mostly pretty easy apart from some areas which seem to spike up in difficulty where I struggled and then it drops down again. Having sooo many summonable units on Zion makes the spells super spammable and as a result most of the encounters are super easy. Mostly the difficult parts were for example, in Chapter 1, that graveyard fight with that ghost was surprisingly SUPER difficult for me because every skeleton just surrounded Zion like crazy and I only succeeded in like three tries by making sure I get Zion out of the surround zone, lol.

Then there is the part of Mission Three where you have to defend the town - although only the starting portion of that part when you are settling in. The waves of enemies that come from below towards your base are sometimes in sync with the creatures that come from above to attack the villager huts. But once I settled in and got the Tier 3 Knights everything dropped down to easy.

The main reason I think this campaign sometimes might be easier than intended is because I think especially in Map 2, the game really wants you to stealth past the orcs guarding the roads but in my playthrough with Water Elementals, Feral Spirits and my three Heroes nobody stood a chance. They were all like "oh man, how do we get past those dozen towers standing in our way? Why don't we go through the forest instead" and I am like "Bro, we have 3 summon units and Aegwynn has freaking Starfall! Arguably the best spell in the whole game! We will be fine!"

While this sounds like I am complaining that the difficulty is mostly easy, I am completely content with it. I find these chill campaigns pretty enjoyable to play anyway. Especially RPG focused ones, and this campaign is HEAVILY RPG focused, all 4 missions except the small town defending part of Mission 3 are RPG and not RTS. I quite enjoyed that!

TERRAIN/EXPLORATION:
This campaign does amazing in exploration as well, as it should since the maps are all majorly RPG-focused. I love the little secrets this map has and all the cool optional quests. I especially loved the exploration of Chapter 2 and 4. Chapter 4 was my favorite because I absolutely LOVE missions set in dungeons with various branching paths and places to go and I feel Chapter 4 really satisfied that itch of mine, because seriously there are so many branching paths in this one that at times I actually felt confused on where to go LMAO. I loved Chapter 2 because of how many little nooks and crannies there are with units that you have to kill. Also that Easter Egg Quest of killing the three Giants, while a bit out of place and weird, was super funny and I had a really fun time seeking them out.

I also love that Cheese is mfing back baby! And I like how it was handled this time around with it morphing into a more powerful item, HOWEVER, I hated that I did not know Khadgar wasn't going to be available for Chapter 4 because he had the Cheese, so I never got to see its effects in Chapter 4. Apparently Deicide is saying the cheese turned lantern is meant to reveal a hidden unit in Chapter 4 which gives you a good item. Unfortunately without Khadgar, I didn't get to experience that. Ah well, its an unfinished campaign anyway lol.

CHAPTER-WISE THOUGHTS:

Chapter 1 - Shadows Approach
  • Like I mentioned, I REALLY LOVED this map, this gave me vibes of Founding of Durotar, which is probably my favorite campaign in the game.
  • I love the cool stuff the villagers say if you click on them, it makes the town feel lived in, even though I do wish there were more unique stuff they could say, or the dialogue lines wouldn't repeat so much lol.
  • I was a bit confused when some of the shopkeepers said I could buy items or weapons but I couldn't, but I guess those are just flavor text. Could be cool if they were an actual shop though!
  • Zion's items being back from the first campaign is freaking AWESOME! I love the attention to detail. I didn't even realise cross-campaign inventory restoration like this was possible lol.
  • Like I said, the graveyard battle with the ghost and the skeletons was SURPRISNGLY difficult. I had to reload two times because Zion got surrounded and stuck everytime and died.
  • The stealth part from the orcs was fun... except you don't have to stealth at all because your summons and you are strong enough to kill them off and get XP from them anyway, and there is a fountain of health nearby to heal on too.
  • The second half of the map is a bit TOO generous with the various Potions of Greater Mana strewn about in random places, not even dropped from enemies, they are just laying there. I think I just used one of them.
  • I think Medivh is a bit too cartoonish-villain at the end with how he is constructing Garona to kill all three of the heroes, including his own mother like that lol.

Chapter 2 - The Long Road
  • Ah, this is such a fun map! I LOVE the amount of exploration you have to do in this one. I have seen someone in here say the combat is repetitive on this map, but I would disagree. I love maps like these.
  • Having said that though, you have FOUR summon spells you can use on this map, Summon Bear (which I never used in this campaign until the very end), Summon Water Elemental and Summon Feral Spirits from Zion and Summon Treants from Aegwynn. I feel its a bit overkill and makes the stealthy sections in this map redundant because you can just kill them all. Not to mention, Aegwynn has freaking Starfall, dude!
  • Its a bit weird how in this map, Aegwynn can go all the way to Level 10 but Khadgar is capped at Level 3. But I guess I get it, since after this mission you are unable to control Aegwynn anymore so this is the only mission you get to play as her.
  • The Giants are super fun. I was worried for a second thinking to get to them I would have to use Flame Strike and I already used up my points on Khadgar and he is capped at Level 3. But thankfully you have Summon Treants on Aegwynn.
  • Oh god, seeing the dragons near that fountain of health triggered the trauma in me of Coming of the Horde Chapter 3 XD God I hated that map.
  • Aggravatus at the end was kinda easy. Aegwynn's Level 3 Frost Nova is insane against him, just nukes his health down by atleast 20-25% everytime you use it, and you can Cyclone the Doom Guards he spawns. Be careful of keeping Khadgar protected because he is the weakest hero and can be easily focused down.
  • This is probably my favorite map in this campaign.

Chapter 3 - In the Name of the Light
  • Another long but very fun map with multiple parts to it. I especially loved the town defending part even though it was difficult.
  • I think two things being key in that part are having a proper lumber spot for my workers because the place you start has nearly no trees so you gotta move them down where there are a LOT of trees. And the other thing is I got to Tier 3 as quickly as possible getting most of the blacksmith upgrades as fast as I could and then I got the amazing Knights to defend me.
  • Also having a good combination of Cannon Towers and Guard Towers for the two entrances at the top portion where the creatures enter basically makes them unable to enter the town at all because they are too weak. Just send a peasant there occasionally to repair and rebuild destroyed towers and you will be good.
  • One thing about this mission is the optional objective is kinda useless because the reward you get with the fountain of health in the town being healed is not that good, since you already have a LOT of healing with you. Uther has Healing Wave and Clerics have the normal heal, so you are never running short on heal. Yet I did it anyway because I am such a completionist lol.
  • Zion's ultimate ability Thunderstorm is kinda weird because instead of doing the thunderstorm in the desired area from a distance he has to run towards that area to be in that area for him to be able to channel it? Its pretty arbitrary to know the best area to cast it in because I don't want him to run into the enemy area before he is able to cast it, kinda wish it was just like Starfall. I am not a fan.
  • Malachel at the end is super easy, almost unsatisfyingly so. Especially with all the units you have and all three heroes with you, he goes down super easily. He should've had a higher health pool and done some more AOE damage to be any more of a threat lol.

Chapter 4 - The Tome of Divinity
  • Dungeon missions are absolutely amazing, and this one is no less. Although this mission is probably the easiest of the bunch because we have Healing Wave which imo in a micro mission is way too broken because its a very efficient way to heal everybody. Plus, every creep encounter in this map drops healing items.
  • The text at the beginning says I am supposed to not be able to use Zion's Thunderstorm but I still can use it? Uther's Far Sight is correctly disabled though.
  • I loved the part at the end where after you fight a major boss you think its done, but actually its not! You still have to exit the mines while passing through a bunch of orcs led by Doomhammer! I really enjoyed that.
  • I am a bit bummed that I couldn't use the Cheese turned lantern item to find the hidden unit here because I had no idea who I should give it to and which hero would be available in future missions lol
  • My second favorite map in this campaign after the second one!

PLAYTHROUGH:
Chapter 1 - Shadows Approach

Chapter 2 - The Long Road

Chapter 3 - In the Name of the Light

Chapter 4 - The Tome of Divinity

Overall, I really can't give this campaign any less than a perfect
5/5 stars because of how much enjoyment I derived from it, and also since this campaign did NOT have any annoying Ensnaring Dragons moment, I again don't have any tangible complaint against this one apart from my own personal stuff regarding difficulty, etc. It was spectacular.

I wish Deicide came back and completed this series but I do get that life happens sadly. I will miss this series.
