I know some are doing RPGs without GE but I have no intention to go deep in these files when very soon one would be able to do that directly from the editor. So while waiting for GE and the new maps, here are 2 maps with modified terrain, this is ofc nothing special. Some may decide to play it if they are bored with the current same maps or same terrains.

Thx to overload119, vjeux and Alevice for showing me how it's done

Lava Temple

I stopped at this map because I think it fits most for lava but credits go to overload119 because his was the idea to change the terrain on this map before me. While he will go RPG map, mine is just melee.

Features:
- lava cracks, lava, magma, obsidian, crashed ships doodads remained
- destructible rocks removed from high yield mineral field

Monlyth Moon

The first Monlyth map ever. No one has done a map on this tileset, it looks similar to Xil but that's what it is. Nothing to do with the described in one thread 'ice/snow, there is no such thing. It is grey rock and desert like the Moon.

Features:
- complete conversion to Monlyth with respective cliffs, plants, ground and some new doodads.

Updated the tilesets thread with your new descriptions.

Personally, I can't wait to try these out!

EDIT: How do I get StarCraft II to read these maps? I'm using the real game, not LazyLauncher.

Thanks, I also dont know why it won't display them. I have seen the create game menu of Sc2 and I know it only displays Blizzard maps, you can choose 'My published content' but I still dont know which folder they should be in to be readable in the 'Create Game' menu.

Right now the folders of SC2 are such a mess that I hope they put all in installation folder like every other games was so far... (will try to figure out soon how to create custom games from the menus inside battle net)

We'll probably be able to read them once the Editor is released. I'm thinking what it does is...
The Editor saves in it's own kind of thing, with two modes: local folder or local game. Local folder/drive for windows explorer opener, and then the game displays the map folders n stuff in it's own viewer which looks nothing like Windows Explorer if you do local game. Then, instead of downloading maps from sites, you download them from in-game, at the marketplace.

According to MY thread, Tilesets.

Actually, upon closer inspection, Ulaan looks alot like Monlyth, which turned out to be a moon tileset. So I better change it. But Niflheim is snow for sure.

The only available terrains atm in Beta are MarSara, BelShir, Shakuras, Monlyth, ZhakulDas, Korhal, Braxis, Redstone, Xil. From them all current Blizzard maps were on any of these but none used Redstone or Monlyth. Im looking forward to Niflheim because the snowy trees and cliffs - I liked them in SC1 as well.

Monlyth Moon (Monlyth), the above map
Lava Temple (Redstone), the above map
Blistering Sands (MarSara)
Steppes of War (BelShir)
Twilight Fortress (ZhakulDas)
Shakuras Plateau (Shakuras)
Lost Temple (BelShir)
Kulas Ravine (BelShir)
Desert Oasis (Xil)
Metalopolis (Korhal)
Scrap Station (Braxis)

Right now I dont understand why maps won't show up in the Create game menu, imagine you play that Contra mod and you have beta... the same logic.

No no, remove above link, not allowed here. I even read some of the tools/launchers can grab your key, not sure if true, I read it in my old forum some of the remained ppl mentioned it. I uninstalled all that had to do with launchers and such 1 week ago when I learnt I should be expecting a blizzard email.

Im also in beta now however have no clue how to make these 2 maps work as in host them, I wouldnt make some new folders, so maybe until they release GE. we can't dont know. If you know where 'My publlished maps' appear when you host a game, that's where. -_-

Grab your key? That's literally impossible.
Launchers don't require a login, and there aren't keys anymore. Things are bound to your account, and if you never log in they can't steal a key. Plus, launchers should only be used when you DON'T have an account with BETA access as there's no need to if you do.

I'll need an official mod's say on this. If they want it removed, I'll remove it of course.

Okay, new info folks! We can read these maps! In order to do so, go to this directory:
XP C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.Net\Cache
VISTA/7 C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.Net\Cache
Then, open each and every folder (and their subfolder) and find files. Eventually, you'll come across one with a file extension of .s2ma. Then, rename that file, using the existing name and adding a _ORIGINAL to it, before the extension. For example, mine was 5b92975e810c9ed2e91a66ac275fcee92a91e8dd77a11f4289d9760e13e89f3f.s2ma and now it's 5b92975e810c9ed2e91a66ac275fcee92a91e8dd77a11f4289d9760e13e89f3f_ORIGINAL.s2ma. Then, open up that file you just renamed in Notepad. On the second line, keep reading until it says the map name. It's kind of stuck in there randomly.
Map names are like Desert Oasis, Kulas Ravine, Lost Temple, Twilight Fortress, ETC, and some may have Novice tagged to them. REMEMBER THE MAP NAME. Now, move a map downloaded in this thread to that folder. Remember, though, for safety and NOT BREAKING, for the Desert Oasis, Blistering Sands, Scrap Station, and Steppes of War maps, only use Monlyth Moon, since they're all 2v2. Likewise, for any other map titles, only use Lava Temple. Finally, rename the new map with the name of the other file WITHOUT the _ORIGINAL tag.
Now, you should be able to open it in StarCraft II. Unfortunately, unless the other player(s) have done the EXACT same thing, with the same map and replaced the same old map, you can't play with them as it fatal errors you. But, if you have all done the exact same thing it should work. Just don't go hosting it in public as fatal errors are sure to ensue; host it private and invite friends you KNOW have done it right.

Until the editor they will not. Plus novice maps aren't used in ladder games, so that's fine to override unless you play custom novices alot.
