Well, as a "super-creative being" with nothing at all to do during the day, I'm going to try and make a map, and release it.
However, I've got 2 very different ideas, and I don't know which one I should use!

So I'll ask you for help in choosing, and also, if none of the ideas are even close to being interesting, you can say so!

A multi-player RPG
It's going to focus mostly on the story, have scripted spells, but no inventory system or attachment systems. It's my first map, and I want to try keeping it simple, but enjoyable. I already have the story in my head, and I'd only have to add details to it, and also some (shallow) sidequests. The map would hold a few villages, one big (big) city, and an indoor-zone, which would be 40-50% of the map.
It would be more of a puzzle-driven RPG, and not so much a hack and slash, as that tends to get boring pretty fast. I'd probably do my best to include some bossfights though.

An empire-builder map
There's currently a few of these maps out, and some of them are good, some not. The point of it would be to build up your empire, either by conquering, or by peaceful growth. I'm thinking to make it so that you are constantly upgrading and researching, and as your technology evolves, so do your buildings and units.
I'm going to differ the two ways of expanding your empire, but I'll make them both viable and it will only be up to you which one you prefer, and not just mass an army because it's the only thing that works.
Also, I'm thinking to add religions, where you can't choose both, but they all give different advantages, and disadvantages.

Well, going by just what you have written, the empire-building seems a bit... it seems like it won't work. If a person expands via peaceful growth, he will be a rather easy target for the military based conquerers.

I always tend to prefer rpgs/orpgs over other maps, so its just my opinion that you should go for the rpg. However, the empire-builder does sound interesting if it can be pulled off (being balanced).

Perhaps if you would go into more detail about each it would be easier to find out which one is the better choice.

EDIT- You don't really see any puzzle based rpgs out there... it would be nice to see an rpg that isn't just hack n' slash

Well, even if you're a peaceful empire, you could ofcourse still defend yourself.
Such as you get "evil points" for killing buildings, not units. That way, you can defend yourself against an attacking army, but you're not attacking their buildings.

(Edit)
About the RPG, I'm getting a lot of inspiration from point and click adventures such as The Longest Journey, if you've ever heard of it.
If not, just think Zelda :p

I haven't played either :hohum:

Well, how would one "win" the empire-building map? It would be impossible to conquer the entire map as a peaceful nation, and I really don't think anyone would pick the peaceful nation.

I guess, you could make it so that whoever has the most % of the map conquered by the time the entire map is player controlled would win, but still...

There's plenty of win conditions, I just have to pick one :p

And you must have played some puzzling RPG, so I'll just leave it at that.

2 or 4 players each with a plot of land
as their do stuff they get stuff like a villager/builder to make something
so basicly its a orpg but with some empire map traits to it

but myself i go with rpg only cause some of them are really good
