random terrain generation is actually pretty easy to set up, it brings a bunch of issues that can be a pain in the ass, one of the unavoidable issues is the minimap, no matter how much shit you make on the map, it never changes: destructibles don't show up, terrain textures don't change, etc, the only thing that appears on the minimap are the units, and i was using these in my previous project:using invisible dummy units for player blue to represent rivers, green to represent trees, brown for mountains, etc... the lag ended up killing this iteration of the project, i'l try again next year
this time i'm working with smaller maps generated as needed, so lag and minimaps shouldn't be an issue, but i wanted cavemen to be able to swim and build punts and rafts, so i don't know if i can use doodads as rivers... it seems my idea for random maps is destined to failure: it turns out there is a limit to what WE can do
