The latest official (v0.50d) has been built with the 'return-bug' so it's not working for versions above 1.24. The only old version which can be played is v0.30d.

"Hero", hehe, see that's what I want to avoid. Conflicts with known terms, but yeah, the build of the hero/character/champion/whatever should be thought through. I most likely focus on the lore right now. Of course I have considered many gameplay features already, but I'm not nearly done with it.

It's a fantasy setting, medieval-like, with (I'll at least try) innovative places and features and not the classic "class-system with pre-set abilities".

Hm, that's pretty much how I would do that. I would also use a hashtable or Table to store the ones I already looked up.
I don't think Lua would help with this, but then again I'm not familiar with it.
