(Yes, we know the logo needs work. This is what happens when you don't have Photoshop at home, kids!)

What is Marines & Monsters?
Marines & Monsters (hereafter shortened to M&M, roll with it) is a series 2-6 player survival/arena maps that used the WC III World Builder. It requires the Frozen Throne expansion.

Series of Maps? Like a Project?
Yes, but we're not asking to be hosted on the hive, as we're only tangentially related to Warcraft by toolset, and Starcraft by way of Models (as I do not have the ability or time to create my own 3D Models).

Is there a plot?
So far, the plot's about as fleshed out as the Original Doom was back in 1993 - "These are your Marine buddies, here are some Monsters, see if you can survive to the end" about sums it up.

These were not really built with Plot in mind, so much as gameplay.

What classes can you play as?
You can pick from one of Six flavors of Marine to start with:

Defender
The Defender is armed with a Minigun and a Force Shield Projector. His abilities revolve around defending the team (such as his Force Shield Projector and Defence Matrix abilities), but can in a pinch let out a short range stun if he is overwhelmed by hordes of enemies. The Defender has Fortified Armour and high HP, but low overall offensive power and lacks any form of engaging multiple targets beyond his Clearout ability.

Officer
Officers use a variety of orders to cover various different roles. This ends with his Ultimate, "Charge!", whereby the Officer gives everyone a small amount of every buff for a brief period. Fellow marines will want to stay pretty close, as the Officer is very squishy and severely lacks offensive ability.

Medic
The Medic is the party Healer, spraying Medibots over his fellows and even having access to a Regeneration aura. However, he also carries Neurotoxin Grenades on him, giving him a small AOE attack if things get hairy. However, the Medic has the same squishiness and offensive power as the Officer, making protecting him a priority.

Pyrodon
A most unusual Marine, the Pyrodon is armed with a flamethrower he uses at close range to barbeque hordes of enemies. He can even create Area Denial via his Scorched Earth ability, and can even set himself on fire! Having said all of that, the Pyrodon has the shortest range and only average defense, but anything in close proximity is going to be nice and toasty. The Pyrodon is also one of two Marines unable to hit Air targets.

Sniper
The Sniper is a hunter from afar. His specialized rifle is capable of inflicting a lot of damage at long range, but his minimum range and light Armour demand he be protected. Fortunately, Snipers can make themselves Invisible for short time periods, allowing them to escape or take a few shots unnoticed. If isolated however, the Sniper will be easily ripped apart.

Demolisher
The Demolisher is less of a Power Armored Marine, and more of a Battlesuit. The Demolisher is armed with a powerful (but slow firing) Grenade Launcher, capable of damaging the heaviest armor types. He also sports the highest Health and Armour apart from the Defender, and carries a variety of different weapons - most notably, a powerful Flak Cannon for dealing with airborne threats. However, the Demolisher's power comes at a price - his attack has a Minimum range, and without investing in the Flak Cannon, he cannot attack Air targets. The Demolisher cannot relocate in a hurry either, as he has the slowest movement speed out of all of the Marines.

Is the above information final?
No, the above classes are not final. As a proof of demonstration, here's a class that was cut a while earlier:

Gladiator
The Gladiator is a Marine armed with an Energy Blade, Shield and a Jetpack. The Gladiator has a variety of stances he can use with his sword and shield, as well as a short ranged Jump towards targets. The Gladiator however proved impossible to code for, and the animation for his sword never looked right, so he was replaced with the Pyrodon at time of writing.

It is likely more will be cut as necessary.

How big is the file size?
We are under the understanding that the maximum size for a map on Battle.net is 4MB. The map will not be any larger than this, and it's more likely by the time it is done we'll be looking at 3MB.

What kind of opposition can I expect?
Right now we're not sure if we want to take a more Arcade-y "all of the themes!" or a more straight faced, faction oriented approach. The Former does not gel with plot so well, and the latter could end up being plain jarring ("So, why do the Reborn have Warcraft III flyers for Airborne Mooks?")

You wrote survival/arena above. How does this work?
We have no less than three Boss Fights. The exact bosses have not been planned out, but they're going to be as frantic as all heck to deal with. At this point though, I am still experimenting with Ideas at this point.

When can we expect it to be done?
There isn't a set release date. However, the first map is called "Labyrinth", and provided there are no complications (or we just find this project a complete chore), it should be ready sometime in 2013.

Given that this is an ongoing thing however, release dates will change.

Our apologies for Double Posting, but progress updates.

We hope you've had a great holiday, because I found an unusual Christmas present - a backup of an old map from an early build. We're working to modernize this map instead, by combining old code from the old map into this map.

And then after that, we can get to the fun stuff - like coding the waves and balancing the Heroes.

Hope you all had a happy holidays (or was at least better than mine), and here's to getting something released for once!
