For avoiding flatness i suggest u to use a richer tonal range in ur drawing.

Too much noise. What kind of compression and conversion software do you use? If you use BLPLab then set quality to 100 and mip-map to 16. Take example from morbent's contest entry, his icons are smooth and clear. 4/5

Atm looks kinda flat, the shading is poor. So, try to improve the shading.
The contest's judges have already pointed out the flaws on all of ur icons.
I advise u to make improvements considering the judges' observations.
