didn't really like the first compostion the more I worked on it the more I struggled with it. Of course I would have liked drawing Geralt face... but meeh I'll get vesimir's face instead ;) + this feels more like the ingame experiance. so Double win! + I much preffer this composition, has stronger lines = triple win.

The gryphon face looks awesome :D
Just a question, I've not played Witcher, so is that other guy behind the gryphon an enemy?

http://i.imgur.com/pbZQt1F.jpg it will be Vesemir, master witcher of the wolf school. Teacher and father figure of the main protagonist Geralt. He's pretty gawd damn badass as well.

The references are gameplay shots or wallpapers?
big mash up of many things.

s3-ac13180766e6973b5544bccf549364d1.jpg

liked this composition a lot + I really like his overal stance since it's an ingame stance as well, so decided to build from it.
The light and atmosphere comes from a mashup of ingames screenshots I took with slight photoshop editing... they are from the exact spot the battle with the gryphon happens (the Mill would be on the right side if the picture was bigger)(for now... I'll photobash the BG later with real life pictures and paintover)

Liked a lot how the gryphon pawes were positionned in that piece, so took inspiration from it again.

for the face.
latest

based myself from this picture and proportions + getting inspired by the overall rendering of the promotionnal advertisement.

Oh this gif thing is really nice! It actually helps noobs like me learn a lot from that. Like, I didn't expect the process of building the shape of the giant to be done that way. Looking forward for your other work!

Glad it could help you one way or an other :D cheers!

Looking great man! Love your works.
Thanks mate! High-five!

Master Goblin is the best! (That Mr. must be means Master)

Shhhh you, you'll make me blush ._.

Alright, hard challenge, I'm trying to design an alien race for the concept-art competition. I'm aiming for something that doesn't look too alien, but not too human either. + I'm exploring this old concept of mine https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/…/10694263_37583585592…

hum... guess i,ll jump right into the illustration and get inspired by my trials and errors. Sometimes you just have to jump into a drawing try different lines, let your hand gestures flow and something cool comes out of it, I feel like I tried to hard tonight to get an idea out of my mind.

You mean like LotR orcs?

not fully my intentions, I got inspired by the white orc in the hobbit movies though! But concider this a sketch it might change significantly in the final product. Will see tomorow, I'll start working on it :D

LIVESTREAMING EVENT OF 31 of JULLY (RECAP)

full

On the first hour we explored my workflow. I explained to hivers how I build up a concept from ground zero up to a final concept-art/illustration product.

Step #1 = The idea!
The subject of this livestreaming event was to come up with an appealing alien bug design for my upcoming concept-art entry.

Step #2 = Get inspired
I made myself a montage of various images I found on the internet that inspired me. From that bank I would build up various studies and sketches to help me explore multiple bug like shapes and forms.
full

Step #3 = Experimentation
On the second hour of the livestreaming I explored various lines, shapes, forms, silhouettes, etc. of different bug like aliens. As a way to explore various prominent features that would make my concept-art unique.
full

Step #4 = The solution
From step #3, I took the main 2 silhouettes that inspired me the most and mixed both into a compelling lineart work. From that point I gradually built my concept-art from my inspiration board, to finally acheive a somewhat close final concept-art product. The idea for this alien bug is that it was never built to land... it's ment to fly and act like a kamikaze. Once his wings are closed... it takes the shape of a bullet.
full

First = the line-art. Combining ideas from the two sketches, I came up with a rough overal idea for the alien bug.

full

Second = using some aspects and features from the inspiration board I made myself earlier I started the colouring job with rough highlights and shadows. I tried to explain my overall process of colour exploring like explaining the use of Red, green and blue to tint and give a more organic feal to my creature.

full

Finaly after an extra hour of work I finished the overal concept of the alien bug with a somewhat finish product. Helping myself from my inspiration board I defined some areas with more organic looking textures and paterns etc.

It was a great live-stream, mate! Even though I wasn't paying attention during half of it :p

But damn I really like how it turned out, you've got to do more of these ^^

That's awesome! If only I could see the coloration again, that's mostly where I failed.

Thanks guys! I appreciate! I'll let you know when the next livestreaming event will happen. probably in 2 week-ends... if not let me know when you'll be available Edge45 I could show you again in the hangout somedays.

Since your time is Eastern, I guess it would be the opposite in here, I did get to see your last livestream, I ended only when you have gathered the references and started sketching. Due to I always being disconnected + plus I was sleepy, so I missed the rest.

It's ok when or what your next livestream will be, but it would be better if you can a make a record of it, but the recaps still helpful though. :)

Btw, nice piece :D, you use Dodge and Burn tool to shade/highlight right? I always don't get how you were always able to smoothen your shading techniques.

That's some high quality work man!

Hey, I'm really not in position to tell you to do this or do that, but if I were you I would try to get more variation of ripples on the suface of the water. By now you got mainly concentrical ripples with kinda short waves (2~4 cm tall), so I would also put some taller irregular waves in order to make the water body look more agitated because of the battle.

I still struggle a lot with finishing the colouring/shading and not letting any reminiscent linework at the edges of the characters/scenery.However the polishing you did on the alien in the middle looks very very nice, there are some parts where we can't spot a single brush stroke, like a photo picture. I'm really impressed by that, good job man! Expecting the final thing

Yeah you,re right, the water isn't final.. it's mostly a test that I wanted to make early on since I have reflection and shadows to think about as well. ya know, all that. I'll definitly look into it :D

Yeah I'd rather focuss on the main character and fully finish his rendering before jumping into the dead bodies around. XD Thanks a lot! Hopefull I'll have something presentatble before the end of the contest. Cheers!

Welp, I had 2 visitors during the livestreaming event. I won't be hosting anymore events until I get enough requests.

Step 1 = Inspiration board! I was aiming for the ultimate medieval swordsman... kinda. Felt like mixing a bunch of historical warriors from different times and era in a complet mash-up!.

Step 2 = Blocking the silhouettes and the overall shape of the body. (stance, proportions etc, all that jazz)

Step 3 = Blocking of the overall flow of the design.

Step 4 = Blocking of the colour palette + slowly jumping into details, very trial and error at this stage.

Step 5 = Jumping into overall details (Highlights, shadows, paterns, textures, etc.) Still very blurry

Step 6 = More work is put into the overall details.

Step 7 = Final rendering after the 3 hours of livestreaming.
