he wants maps to be open so people can learn from them. If a map is protected you can't see any triggers and stuff, so you cant leanr how they did that cool stuff, like in dota :/

^Agreed with Polish. I'm a learning map maker and opening other maps is the main thing I learn from. (Its faster than asking on the forums anyhow >.>)

Map protection is EVIL!!! And as the mods say... Not to be spoken about. So I suggest going elsewhere with your evil protection!

I learnt everything I know by studing other maps, and I hope that people can learn stuff out of the few maps I release.

Although i will probably get a warning for this;
I do protect my maps, i don't want to join battlenet just to see 9 modified copies of my map, and one original game.
But if anything, i do add a text message ingame, if anyone wants to learn from the map, to email me about it.
When they do, and ask about a specific trigger or system i will help them create it.

There, nobody is copying my maps, and they do get chance to learn.

yeah thats the same i do i also protect my maps, becasue a friend of me has lost his map by another one he makes a map called "spinnendjagd" (german) or "spiderhunt" (english) and he hasnt protect his map and what happens a few days later i saw his map opened i joined and author was anpther one his map was ripped and i dont want to lose all my maps i made, u know.

Still most of the mods (like me) share Darky's opinion about map protection. Best protection for your map is to upload it here, so everyone (especially the mods) know that it's your map. Sometimes I'm wondering if you guys get money if your map gets hosted in b.net, else I don't know why you care that much. I know that mappers like it when many people know their map and it's played often in b.net, it's some kind of honor, and map stealing puts anger in the heart of every mapper. But making it impossible for other mappers to open it isn't the right way, why not creating a website for it, e.g. like "Tides of Blood"? In my opinion that's the best way to tell the world that this map belongs to you.

For which reason do you make maps? Do you simply make them so other guys see how good you are in map making and can praise you, or do you do it because you simply like making maps? Think about it. And still, we don't allow discussions about map protection until Darky changes his opinion, so I'll lock this topic.

@Angelusz:
You won't be warned for uploading protected maps or simply saying that you do it, we (especially VGsatomi) only don't like to see it.
