Well from what I understand is its the 360 version of windows media center which comes with vista. Basically it allows sharing of media between 360 and PC once set up on a LAN as well as the playing of many media kinds.
I thought it came installed with the lattest patches anyway nowdays.
There is also Windows XP Media Center edition...you can browse web with downloaded apps and play games and such via your computer. I'd say just use WMP to share videos/music as it streams better and is easier to configure.
