Try looking on your motherboards compatibility list, you can find it on the MB's booklet or maybe you could grab one from the manufacturer's website as pdf. Also, Try checking if they are of the same type (DDR2, DDR3).
 
When I run VS, Warcraft, LoL client, Skype, Photoshop and Chrome, one of the apps crashes.

I don't want 16GB, but I don't want to be restricted as to what I can have open. I believe RAM consumption by software will only increase as time goes by, so what am I really waiting for here? It's imminent that I get 16GB in future.
