Review - Wildlands
(Version March1st 2026)
Synopsis: Wildlands is a beautifully crafted melee map for two players. The Barrens tileset forms a semi-open battle arena for a melee game that follows the generic rules without diversion from the base rules. A very suitable map for a clash of melee-yearning mates.
Map Aesthetics: The map is very pretty. The tile usage is perfect and the mixture is well-done and supported with other aesthetic props. Visual clarity is also excellent. The only area for improvement i see is lack of distinction between areas, which is not typical in Blizzard style maps. Differentiating disinct areas of the map with visual means helps players to track their own location, and brings freshness to the visuals. Nevertheless that is very optional approach. Overall very good work. Well done.
Map Layout: The layout is semi-open, with no narrow passages nor clear strategic pinpoints on the map. While this works, it doesn't really create much of intriquing openings or differences to many other maps, and due to this the gameflow becomes more strategic in terms of economy and presence on the map in a more long-term way, which reduces the impact of individual plays (which can be a good thing).
Neutral Objectives: Neutral objectives are typical and expanding gold mine placement seems acceptable. The micro-placement of creep camps is good and excellently fits the thematics. I do critique the macro placement of (espeically green camps) though: they are very scattered across the map and it can be very 'misdirecting' at first. The item drops are okay, a bit on the strong-end of the spectrum.
Comment: A good beautiful melee map for two players. Visuals are very good with no apparent weakpoints in any other aspect either. Solid work.
