Why is this site stretched to the borders? It'd look cooler if there was a gap between borders and content. Is there a reason for this?

I don't see any changes at all, Maybe they're just tweaking the site so It will be compatible in the iPhone.

Screenshots of what I mean?
Sure:
450pxborder.jpg (682.7 KB) = 450 pixel gap between the content and borders
250pxborder.jpg (729.5 KB) = 250 pixel gap between the content and borders
450pxborderIMG.jpg (913.2 KB) = 450 pixel with an image
250pxborderIMG.jpg (851.9 KB) = 250 pixel with an image
250pxborderIMG2.jpg (968.7 KB) = 250 pixel with an another image

On the image ones, no, I'm not suggesting the specific images used there. They probably are copyrighted.

Edit: Great example of nice looking web page: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/ , try making your window smaller from maximized one. The gaps only appear on higher resolutions, which is neat.

Do I really need to wait for never-coming "hive 2" for a margin change?

The forest looks cool, but I'd keep a sky view on the right, as in a set being viewed from the borders of the woods. Could be a nightfall or actual night since it's Night Elf theme and all =P actually that reminds me I never saw night-themed background images in any website =P It's definitely worth a shot.
Or even better, alternate between day and night depending on the actual time of day and your region =P Too ambitious I guess.

I doubt Ralle would do anything, even if he'd read through this thread. I just think the site is very... odd looking when watching on maximized window at 1920x1080 resolution. Compared to WoW forum. And plenty of forums have background images now in 2013.

I cannot agree with you that is looks "odd" - The mere fact of the matter is that using the style you describe is actually being lazy - meaning unable to make it floating and fit various sizes. And I am using the exact resolution you mention.

Having such a background would make the site look cheaper and would ruin a lot of it. If you follow the latest trends in homepage design you should already be aware of how dated the "center only" approach is - Oh and btw: Take a good look at the site and you can see the background image

No, I by far prefer Hive to keep the current look - and should Hive 2 ever arrive with the centered appearance: Have the option to turn it back to the original.

@RED BARON

You appear to have missed my point - Also rewarding those with high resolution with a "larger" gab is not good design and doing what "everyone" else is doing does no create a distinctive feel for a webpage. Hive's design is good looking, pleasant for the eyes and different from the rest. Your suggestion as to the design has become a norm which is outdated for those that create the norm.

Although I storm an endless pool of ideas (I still have a few up my sleeve), I have been saying that exactly from the beginning, ever since I heard of a Hive 2. Choice is the best asset to offer to a user.

Indeed it is, and there'd always be an option not to use any bg images at all, at least on low graphics theme :)

Yeah, but low graphics theme has white, light green, a shade of orange I don't know, and more text color to make your reading session an unpleasant experience.

I know you hate its color scheme ^^ but hey, at least there's such an option for hivers.

If there is a possibility of detecting whether or not something would cause lag by indirect means, then that is the way to go, as that could be used to decide what bg image to load. Otherwise, we should have a default option of a small (height-wise) image of medium quality, so that the interface doesn't impact negatively. Then I guess we could make the guests able to decide what background image they want.
