What is max map size ?

The current map size limit for Warcraft III (latest patch) is 512 MB (for regular maps; both SP and MP) and 2 GB (for singleplayer campaigns).

For the older patches, particularly 1.26 with old 8 MB map size limit, a 3rd party modification is required to circumvent that restriction.

I don't think singleplayer has this kind of map size limit as it's for Battle.net play. For the older patches, particularly 1.26 with old 8 MB map size limit, a 3rd party modification is required to circumvent that restriction.
I think it was raised to 500 in the 2.0 patch as well.

If the map was made with the Reforged HD graphics and with lots of imported assets, that might have reached or passed the limit Blizzard required.

I could be wrong. I don't own Reforged, nor even the latest patch, so I can't really tell you about detailed info. Hopefully, the others can help clarify.
