All it takes is that you actually know what you want.
What I think it takes:
A sense of critique for actually spotting stuff that shouldn't be there
The ability to write down and explain your ideas, as elseway you will just sound like a troll.
An understanding of gameplay balance and logic. Different kinds of games have different balance.
- Good observation skills.
- Curiosity to find all possible bugs and exploits.
- Knowing how to be critical while not being rude - e.g. instead of "the terrain sucks", you can say "the trees used in this location look bad because the texture isn't of the same quality as the surrounding doodads".
