game system feature idea ... i guess

Hey evry1 my rpg map is rlly gooing well so far, I had a thought and wanted some opinions on it, my rpg has the camera of w/e player set to follow thier hero unit from behind, and zoomed in (kinda like world of warcraft) I wanted to get rid of the minimap because entering a dungeon takes you to a set aside area of the map and it would be geographically incorect to the game worlds "natural layout" but anyway, my point is since i wont use the games normal minimap and the camera is set to rotate at your units view, I was thinking of some sort of in game compass so you dont lose control of your cardinal directions (as most quests describe where to go by this system, anywa wanted to know ppls thoughts on the in game compass and if any1 knows a way to make that happen (obviously it would have to rotate so north is always north etc.) I'll post the demo of my game so you can see the camera style attached here

you may add a trigger to create a beam of light pointing north from the player character when he types in "-compass" for instance. or have major quest hubs a board with directions.

OFC, you may also make things more interesting and lets players themselves find the parts of the world - like look for moss doodads on trees, see where sun rises/sets (would need some special effects obviously), etc.

To fix the minimap problem, go to the object editor and there will be an option there that says hide unit from minimap. Set it to true. Next, import a picture and use it for the minimap by changing it's path. A blank white picture works best so the white box outline thing is camouflaged.
