[Crash] WE crashes after clicking "Open Map"

Good evening,

My WE crashes after I click "Open Map" (or "Ctrl + O") & the path window loads. (see attached)

Any ideas wtf is happening?

Please, note, the problem is not opening maps, but clicking that button to open a map, as I can open the maps I have opened last few times listed under "File" menu.

Some info:
I am using a Digital copy, the download available from battle.net
Win 8, laptop
Last used WE about half an year ago +/- a few mo.
I've just finished re-installing war3, so, no



PS: Did look a bit around the forum & search function, I hope somebody will point me to an already established and well developed thread on the same issue

• Can you post a screenshot of the screen when you click "Debug" on that error?
• Have you tried running the editor as administrator?
• Have you tried running the editor in compatibility mode?
• What patch are you on?

Well, this worked... Why do I always assume that I am running things as administrator... silly me/win8 ?

Unfortunately, after I ran it as administrator it no longer crashes even if I start it normally... Bummer...

What patch are you on?

It looks like 1.28a (?) The release notes in the game folder go up to 1.28a.
I would assume it would be the latest (which is not going to be the case soon <3 ) as it is the download available on battle.net (battle.net >> Games & Codes >> Download clients >> Classic Games)

I would like to get more info on this, but as it is no longer test-able I guess we'll never know? Unless it is a well known error and there are quite a few people around who are aware and I have just lived in a non-war3 WE cave in the past few years (last part is close to the truth).

Possibly something is in your downloads folder that WorldEdit does not like. Try emptying it.

Do you mean my maps folder ?
I bet there are at least a bajillion maps with weird protection level...
There are quite a few maps that cause disconnect on room creation when playing through Battle.net and me & company can play them only through Game Ranger...

I mean your user account Downloads folder (this folder has nothing to do with WC3) as that is the folder that WorldEdit is crashing when trying to view.

The user account Downloads folder is usually where browsers automatically save downloaded files.

C:\Users\UserName\Downloads ??????

I... may or may not have a pirated copy of war3 v1.26/7 split in 7 .rar files in there. (@FBI: I am not saying that is the case, just a possibility )
And also a .rar file of my maps folder from 3-4-5 years ago...
And a bajillion random .exe files & random file-types around...

This all makes sense now :|
