I've been visiting wc3c oftenly for some time. And I have noticed people there tend to behave... "bizarre", especially against newbies who are usually treated unfriendly; unlike how it was in ages past when wc3c was perhaps one of the best wc3 sites in existant. Also, several of the hosted projects there have been cancelled and there's a couple wasting space for a looong time. Some forums like the Terrain Forum and the Writing Forum are basically forgotten.

So, d'you think wc3c is in its worst time?

Hmmmz...It has been peculiar lately.

But the main problem I am having over there is the manage attachments button. It has completely disappeared. And the thread post/reply options dont work.

Mostly though, it is dying. It just is'nt as adaptable as other sites.

Every website evolves and goes through various transitional phases. I'm sure that they'll work things out in the best interests of their users (of which I am one).

I'd like to take the opportunity to encourage everyone to keep this discussion civil and all criticism constructive. Those guys are our neighbors and friends after all. Posts that unnecessarily troll/flame that site may be subject to wolveravishment.

Of course Wolver.

I only mean to say that wc3c is dying because it is tied to its name Warcraft3

Hopefully it can be revived.

The HIVE however, is adaptable, because we can keep up with all the latest Blizzard releases. Like starcraft, possible warcraft 4, and Diablo 3....ect.

wc3c isnt dead, but its inactive due to how the community is. It's an elitist site, if your shit, stupid or a plain incoherent idiot, you get the flamed out of the site or banned or beaten out.
But due to this, ALOT of quality work is hosted on the site and alot of skilled people are present, so basicly, it cleans the community by basicly killing off the weak and stupid.

EDIT: oh, and this isnt wc3c's worst time considering the site was shutdown and thought to be dead permanently just the end of 2005, but it was revived by Tim at least 2-3 months later.

I find the people at wc3c to be much nicer... to me anyhow.
Not to mention wc3c art gallery is much more active... I actually receive (good) comments and feedback on concept art there when I post.

Granted it is not 2003-4 anymore, but if you were to ask me... if you think wc3c is in its worst days... (not decadence that simply refers to the lack of intellectual and moral discipline. Wc3c has discipline in those regards.)
any way... if you think wc3c is in its worst days you would have to say that the hive is also in its worst days.
Sure its grabbing new people but it fails to produce as much quality work as other sites with extremely less members.
But this all stems back to the quantity vs quality argument, in which both have positives and negatives.
I'm not bashing either site so don't get y'all panties in a bunch.

Hmmmz...I see what sansui and wulfy are saying...Perhaps this isnt its worst time (I wasnt quite there for the 2005 dead time). But I still think that the site is a little buggish...and elitism is a problem. Although I was fortunate enough to not have problems with the staff. But that could be due to the fact that when I joined the site I immediately submited my Elven buildings.

Sansui, maybe for you, but if somebody who has barely began modelling/skinning and he is not that talented immediately gets bashed, how his work sucks that he'd better give up.

And maps, they are rejected because the moderator had no fun, it was boring for him. Maybe for him, but this does not mean that is boring for everyone else. And that dumb rule which does not allow ripped models and sounds.

New people are only bashed when they deserve it. In most cases, they deserve the words they receive. Seriously it seems all the new people think they should be praised for shotty work. It's like they think they should always win, and never lose.

If harsh words make you stop trying you should stop trying to do anything.
If anything a harsh critic should encourage you to prove said person wrong.

It is a rule among artists...Dont submit your first work and expect praise. Infact it is usually best to not submit it at all.

Although submiting a picture of it and saying,

"Hello gentlemen, I am new to modeling/skinning. This is a model I have been practicing on. Could you give me some advice and perhaps some tips/hints, to help me in future art works?"

That is fine and I would hope encouraged.

But then you have these.......

"Lik OMG iz th!s n07 te4 B3s7 moDule EVUR!!!!111one11!!! AnD Itz lik mi Furs7 evur module, it is SOOOOO much gooder than ani thing ! 4ave evur seeen111one1111."

*shudders* the horror.....

And off topic, has anyone ever noticed that it is harder to type in leet form than it is to type in normal, legible English?

Most of the people who "run away" from Wc3 after their first time are those who post in the Off-Topic and try to be funny. If you're not a total dipshit you should do just fine.

Take me for example. I was a total dipshit at first, and submitted some small crap as a model pack, wound up getting the good old strict respsonse... but if you don't take it personnally, you should be fine.

EDIT: And I think Sc2campaigns was reserved by the fromer owner of Wc3c...

I remember the first days I played Warcraft, maybe a year or two after it came out, but it was at a friends house and I had wanted it ever since, I finally got it last year for Christmas, and then finished the campaigns in not too long, but after that I wasn't sure what to do, so I played melee games online, which eventually lead to my discovery of custom games, I forget exactly how, but was somehow linked to WC3Campaigns, and then joined up. I learned a thing or two about mapping, but found that they seemed very 'uptight' as you say, but not so much to me, I posted my skin in WIP and it was pretty bad, but only one person flamed me, and the others were just straight with me, which I very much appreciate, but I knew about the Hive, and didn't really want to join, because WC3C did feel 'elite' and I knew the Hive had a lot of members, and was sort of turned off by that. But after a while, WC3C turned out to not be helping me much and sort of inactive it seemed overall and then I joined the Hive, which I found out was a very friendly place and good start for noobs, and now I have been here ever since, and have sort of abandoned WC3C because it seems much worse than when I left it, so I now prefer this site, sure it has lots of people, and lots of noobs, and not all of the work is up to WC3C standards, but it is a much more pleasant place. So, ya I think that WC3C is still in an undesirable place.
P.S. Sorry for my life as a Warcrafter, but I felt like telling my story, and it is still somewhat relevant to the post

cbf reading.

and wc3c is not a place where you go "HELP PLZZ I NEED HELP!!!" "FIRST PICTURE TOOK 67 HOURS I LIKE IT AND ITS COOL"
DO NOT act like that, you deserve what you get like Sansui said. This place is rather gentle and far above kindness sites should normally have (which can be bad at times) when it comes to things like this.

As with most forums, I would assume no one there wants to deal with noobs who are terrible at things, and likewise no one wants to put up with people who are just looking for a pat on the back and some ego stroking.
Only the people who are humble, truly serious about their work, and actively learning seem to get more attention, and rightfully so.

Maybe I'm just perceiving things incorrectly, but this seems to be how things work in general.

I'm thankful for Wc3c because it has a lot of stuffs I can learn from.
