Wargale: Era of Chaos Ver.1.00

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
Wargale is a DOTA-inspired single player adventure game. Once you've chosen your character, you will embark on a journey filled with quests, bosses and much more!

Features:
- 8 different Heroes, each with their own, unique, triggered abilities.
- 25 levels. The XP has also been altered to favor creeping.
- A gigantic world: this map makes use of all of it's available space. Every single nook and cranny has a use here!
- 6 factions, 5 of which you can join and fight for!
- Real-time progress: Factions that will improve over time.
For example: as they acquire more gold, they will be gaining new shops as well.
- Hero and unit AI: Some units will act differently every time you start a new game. This means no game will ever be the same!

Loading screen fail, Terrain fail, Music fail...
Terrain problem has been addressed multiple times. Loading Screen problem is already addressed on first post. Music is good old FF music. What's wrong?

And if you say that the Terrain fail, instead of being so Captain Obvious, tell him what is wrong.

I thought it was overall pretty good, but there werent enough 1st lvl things to kill in order to gain a few levels without dieing... I killed the spiders and it took a really long time for them to respawn. I'd say lower the respawn time of regular mobs by a little bit.

TERRAIN
I can see that you used JNG or WE unlimited to add more tiles to your map, and that is ok but you done it wrong, why, let me explain:
1st of all when you decided to create map you must understand that there is no way to create lava, underground, snow, grass and sand/mud/dirt, etc etc environment on same terrain (maybe mix of 2, maybe but only maybe 3)

Second thing about it you have only standard 2 blizzard cliffs so your lava terrain is fall, same go for that undead on your map!
(Can be fixed with custom cliffs or by recreating whole terrain, there is one another way but it can be bad:
use underground rock in this case for your undead part of terrain!
1st - create new one based on it (CnP) -> Add to name or create WE prefix "large or something likethat"
2nd - delete pathing ground
3th - set max doodad size to 3 or 4 (example) and small to 1.5 or 2
4th - Place it all over grass cliffs (care doodad can be place one on another so it's number can go to infinity)
5th - do first 3 steps again but now make it to be like normal ones (I mean size)
6th - Place it near larger ones to add some beauty to that
7th - You have new undead, dark, underground or whatever cliff (you now can add pathing ground back)
8th - Be free to add mushrooms, shrubs etc to it to make it even more nicer (you can always change rock color etc to make it look better)

And fr the end about tiles:
Don't place "Stone Path" tile over "Grass" or "Mud" why, because tiles are from different tilesets and look bad this way, try to place "Leaves" tile near it, you see difference for sure!

Now come custom models, grrrr no custom trees
(Blizzard ones are good but at least resize them)

Units, grrrrr Hero is 1/2 of Tower size
(resize that 2)

Add more more more environment doodads to your map, shrubs, flowers, grass etc on grass tiles...

About floating text you can create that one in form of a system, how let me explain:

Floating Text - Change (Last created floating text): Disable permanence -> You use each time
Floating Text - Change the lifespan of (Last created floating text) to 3.50 seconds -> You change that 3.50 time
Floating Text - Change the fading age of (Last created floating text) to 2.00 seconds -> Same time is changed

well create simple trigger without event or condition
and replace that time with 2 variables LifespanTime and FadingAgeTime
in your trigger above just define these 2 variables set one to 3.5 another to 2 (example) and then just use:
Trigger - Run AI TRIGGER NAME <gen> (ignoring conditions)

I checked few more triggers and I saw that you cleaned leaks and that is really good!

Terrain problem has been addressed multiple times. Loading Screen problem is already addressed on first post. Music is good old FF music. What's wrong?

And if you say that the Terrain fail, instead of being so Captain Obvious, tell him what is wrong.

The terrain is a fail because it lacks in doodads and destructibles, way too much empty spaces and looks uneven and unbalanced with too much blizzard cliffs. The music is annoying [I've mentioned this before but everybody has different tastes and this song is definitely not what I like and would like to hear during play]. And correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see a post about the loading screen.

That's true I can turn it off, but music is after all a part of the game and since it has been put there for a purpose it will be rated too and I mentioned something about music tastes ...

perhbas im only too stupid, but how to leave if u pay the 300 gold for dunno what name it was lifebringer or such, where u fight against the undeads. i found all the battle completely surrounded by cliffs and water, the only teleporter was between the battlegrounds, i couldnt do anything after killing the undead force... couldnt find the "old man" how to get back???

Updated the map: The only change is that I compressed "To Far Away Times" from 6.60MB to 2.66MBs. This makes the map's filesize much smaller.

Now, to respond to every complaint so far.

I thought it was overall pretty good, but there werent enough 1st lvl things to kill in order to gain a few levels without dieing... I killed the spiders and it took a really long time for them to respawn. I'd say lower the respawn time of regular mobs by a little bit.
Errr, you aren't really supposed to stick around to wait for creeps to re-spawn. The recommended thing to do in the beginning of the game is to join the Life Guardians, since their opponent's units give a lot of XP. Not to mention the importance of keeping the LGs alive. Also, play on easy mode, your starting Hero can take on Level 5 units on easy straight from the start.
Don't forget to practice the usage of the Avoid ability - it's crucial to your survival in the beginning.

Music, I already addressed. Note that, if I compress the custom music any further, the quality will suffer greatly, so I think they are fine as they are.

Terrain, honestly, I have to be blunt: if I were to do what you say, I would be seriously hampering the game for no reason at all other than eye-candy.
The goal of this map was to provide a diverse, non-linear, single player experience.
General terraining solutions seem to amount to nothing more than "Download this program to fix this!" or "Spam doodads everywhere!".
I have an old computer, so spamming doodads is out of the question because it would just hamper the framerate.
As for foreign programs to improve the map, well, when I started the project, I told myself that I would not resort to use any customized stuff until I expended every in-game resource. Eventually, I used custom music, but only since version 0.99 have I started using custom programs to improve this map in new ways.

But really, I'm just wasting time discussing this: because I can assure you that I will NEVER improve the terrain of this map to your standards. It would achieve nothing gameplay-wise, which, as I said before, is the main goal of the map. Moreover, though, is that it would be a waste of resources. I would rather spend time refining the various AI's I made.

Sorry if I disappointed anyone with that last paragraph, but this map is huge. Addressing the issue of terraining is simply too much for my time. If I make a new map, I would gladly listen to your complaints of terraining, but for this one, it is far too much of an effort for so little of a reward.

Triggers, well, while your idea is fine, I do not think the "talking" triggers are so big that they need a refinement. Besides that, I am 99% sure that every trigger is leak-less, which was my main concern when making them.

Loading screen, for this and any future version, I wanted a completely original piece using only drawings. Admittedly, I have fallen short on that aspect, but I don't regret my attempt at all. I will improve the loading screen when I have the time, which I currently don't have.

Music, well, it's all opinion, so there was no way I could please everyone. If it bothers you that much, you can just replace the music files with ones of your choice, since this map is open-source.

There is a gate south-west of the Life Guardians' faction that brings you out. It's mentioned in the Life Guardians' description.
 
Well you don't need to improve terrain to mine level (Also don't think that I am uber terrainer, I just know a little more...) I have old PC 2 I know how 25.000 on 128x128 map can lag (must I say that half of those doodads are animated...) but why not simple to change some basic stuff just like I said above:
*Fix some cliffs, green grass cliff look horrible on undead terrain you know that! (just hide it with few rocks)
*Resize buildings, trees this is RPG dude, not melee game try to make it real!
*Care about tiles on the ground!
*Add few, shrubs/flowers or rocks it will be much better already!

Tell them that you need terrainer to fix your terrain maybe will some dude help who knows!

Well, the hardest thing in the map is trying to get that few levels during early game. After that, i was able to destroy Scourge base with ease and help from Sentinel.

It sucks that when I try to gain experience and gold from killing Devil's minions, the Light Bringer force becomes weaker because they don't get the gold. So the hero should get a bounty income instead, or it's what you're intended.

Posted this in the old thread two weeks ago; just reposting it here.

Just finished playing on hard mode, got the best ending. Version 1.0 (especially best ending) came up better than expected.

I haven't figured out how to get Wand of Wishes without cheat, but I'll save it for later play. Also I didn't like the fact that i had to give up Schorcer II in order to get best ending (it is unwishable by Wand of Wishes).

Potion stacking system reduces difficulty of play, but I think that is good because if someone wants to increase difficulty he can always refuse to use them.

Thanks for Unprotected version because when looking through the triggers I found out how to get best ending.

Errr, do you mean you can't play it from the custom games menu? Because I think renaming the map into something smaller solves this.
Otherwise, I have no idea. Sorry.


Also, Aquafresh, the ability you are talking about (7 sec Spell shield) is completely useless at that point in the game. There are only 2 enemy units, and neither have spell attacks. Heck, the final boss is entirely trigger-based.

Well i've played gone through quite a bit and i think that, terrain apart, it is quite possibly one of, if not, the best single-player warcaft rpg map i've ever played. I liked the dialogs and i think that the replayability value is very high.

This is my spoiler-version of my opinion :
I played as Delvemans, the Elven Assasin, and i LOVED it. There were few problems, such as I wouldn't buy pouches as i couldn't bear losing 1 of my items effect for it, although i've finally given a place up for it.
Also i'm stuck at when Heaven defeats Hell.... WHERE IS THE OLD MAN!?!? I seriously can't find him.
That aside, I intend to replay the game fully again, possibly as an int char. Oh and btw, when I was allied with the horde, at about level 17 I was able to take on 3 knights and destroy the Alliance's castle all by myself... Am I supposed to be able to do this at that level?
Last thing, I like the quests and the ability to be able to dig.


Why is Dron strength? He's a Lich.

The old man is next to the house on the south-west mountain, where you first met him. He reappears automatically when you are level 10.

It's completely normal to be capable of taking out a faction all by yourself. It has a few drawbacks when you realize what the requirements for the best ending are, though.

And Dron being a strength-Hero is not a bug. It was done on purpose.
Part of the reason why is for balance reasons - There are 8 heroes, so I wanted the main attributes to be spread out as much possible, while carrying interesting mix-ups here and there. Dron is a strength-Hero who has a ranged attack, something not present in WC3's heroes. Conversely, Grizzwald is an intelligence-Hero with a melee attack, much like WC3's Thinker.
As of right now, there are 3 int heroes, 3 str heroes and only 2 agility heroes.
If I ever add a new Hero, it will definitely be agility-based.

Also, Dron is a she (despite her skills referring to her as a he). Not that it changes much (just a few dialogue lines, I believe).

Hi I'm in the middle of 0.98 and I'm kinda stuck. After defeating the ogre overlord and going through a few passages, I arrive at a shop (that looks like the arcane sanctum in a skirmish battle) with an invunerable gate in front. How do I get out of the place? Even with the king's key I can't do anything! =( Help! :cry:

I made an account to report a bug that hopefully someone reads: This map is bugged as of Reforged - the easy mode cannot be selected as its locked behind a "requires research Berserk upgrade", which would be fine but the unique and rather crucial "Avoid" ability is also bugged behind the same non-existent requirement.
