Yeah you're probably right about working alone.

In that case, I'd really only need help with models, since I have no artistic ability. I got the ones here of the Elf Ranger/Archer, but I'd still need things like the church, the Orc Death Knights, etc. Any help with those would be great.

If you expect a project to succeed, you wouldn't work with other people. This is just my opinion, but other people, other than model/skin makers just hinder the process of making maps. I know this from personal experience, not only in Warcraft III but from other games like EqEmulator and Ultima Online emulators. Working by yourself, provided you have the knowledge to complete a map alone, is much faster as well. When I make maps, I work on a computer without the internet, so there are no distractions, and it's done in about a week. Of course extra coding and models always help, but going solo is the best way, imo. Just my 2 cents.

Soon I will demonstrate the perfectness of working alone on your maps. I will release a 15-map (not including interludes, credits, etc) campaign based on the bonus Orc campaign from TFT. I will post a demo here on wc3sear.ch in about a week. Personally, not to brag, but I think in terms of visual quality, it's as good as Blizzard's. I'm not so sure about hard quality, but that's yet to be discovered when others test it. Look forward to seeing the Raxxus & Marr campaign soon. I enjoyed making it, so it should be even more fun to play it.

The problem I had with working alone, is that I never finish a project. I've started three campaigns so far and once I got up to the third or fourth maps, I get bored of it and want to satrt something new. When you work in a group, however, you don't do everything and for me that gives me more incentive to complete it.

Yeah, I don't wanna know how much campaigns I started and after some months of work, I thought "What a bad story!". But still I like working alone, perhaps because I had no i-net connection for so long and are familiar with working alone. And I like to be independend from others when I design the rough structure of the campaign. But, when my project is in an advanced stage (ca 50% of the work done), I'll ask others (doing a project, not every n00b) what they think of it and if some guys would like to help/have some ideas to make it better.

I work on my Race Champion Wars map and a secret MOD that no one had heard about... heh heh heh I am a stealth map maker gathering knowledge, resources and help... I usually worked on it mostly by myself and hardly anyone discusses about them but its good to try them out... I find making maps/campaigns like this person quite easy as long as you have good skliiz :)

I understand all the points made, and appreciate the input. I'll probably have a close friend or two help me out because they live locally, but I'd still like help from someone good at model making - I basically would like to have all the units from Warcraft II that didn't make it into Warcraft III. I suppose I can always substitute them later though.

People are trying to recreate Warcraft II... your going to have some competition if you continue :) Also everyone seeks modellers. Custom models are always the coolest things. Even I seek a modeller. But I can skin, icon, make maps, write 100% working tutorials, work with triggers so what is there for me not fail? Just have some decent abilities and you may not need too much people to help you. But everyone needs help even I :)

Competition is always fun.

Yeah but you may get worried like:

People will get bored of the game as its similar to another map.
The other map(s) may be updated more regularly than yours.
You don't feel everything for your map is A - OK. (something bothers you when it comes to think about your map because of the competition (compete) )
You may become jealous and start getting mad.
It has similar ideas to yours.

That's exactly what makes a map good, Sopho. With competition, jealousy (sp?), and other things that make you want to be better. When a better map comes out, you strive to make your own better, and in the end, one of you will give up, thus producing a victor. Take a look at Footman Wars, those maps are ancient, but even today they are being improvised, and now only a few, as opposed to 20, are played on Bnet. Time and competition are the key ingredients to a good map. If there's no competition, chances are, your map will suck in the end, and you'll lose the will to make it better.
