As Gismo359 says, Warcraft Viewer requires you to manually open a MPQ and manually switch between them. If you need content from exclusively war3x, then you have to open the war3x MPQ, if you had opened the common war3 MPQ before.
If you would like to extract resources, then I would rather recommend Magos for doing so, it is faster search-wise ( if you kow where the resource you search for is located)
