Warcraft 3 Plus — Bringing the world of World of Warcraft to Warcraft III: Reforged
Hey Hive! Time for a proper look at what Warcraft 3 Plus actually is.
The idea in one line: what if Warcraft III had simply kept going, instead of branching off into World of Warcraft? Warcraft 3 Plus is our take on how that could have continued — the world that became WoW, brought back home to Warcraft III and played the WC3 way.
In practice, it's a growing collection of single-player custom campaigns for Warcraft III: Reforgedeach WoW zone becomes its own downloadable campaign, played chapter by chapter, very much in the spirit of Warcraft III's own campaigns.
🚧 Status: Alpha — the project is in active development. Chapter 1 (Northshire) is the current proof-of-concept build, and everything below is still growing and being polished.
The vision
At its heart, it re-creates World of Warcraft's classic leveling journey inside Warcraft III — zone by zone, and race by race. Not just one faction: every people gets its own road, starting from its own homeland. You begin with the Humans at Northshire Abbey in Elwynn Forest, but the series reaches across the world — Orcs in Durotar, Dwarves in Dun Morogh, and onward. Each zone becomes its own self-contained campaign.
How it plays
  • You control a hero, but never alone — a small companion squad fights at your side (a mentor + a couple of initiates, growing in later chapters).
  • Faithful WoW questlines rebuilt with WC3 mechanics: explore, take quests from NPCs, clear threats, earn XP and gear.
  • Full TR/EN localization, with English voice-over for the key lines.
One idea we're exploring: rather than playing a nameless adventurer, your hero could be one of the zone's own established characters — a familiar face from the story stepping into the lead, instead of a blank-slate recruit. Still being decided.
Story structure — how a chapter works
Like a classic WC3 campaign, it's played as a series of chapters, and every chapter shares the same shape:
  • Arrival — you enter a new zone with your hero, carrying over your level, gear and story choices from the previous chapter.
  • The hub — a central town anchors the chapter. Its leaders hand out the main quest chain, and side characters offer optional quests.
  • The threats — you push out from the hub to deal with the zone's regional dangers (camps, mines, beasts), each one a step in the story.
  • The climax — every chapter ends in a boss fight against the zone's main villain, followed by a cinematic that reveals the next thread of the plot and opens the road onward.
  • Onboarding — your very first session opens with a short setup: choose your language and name your hero, then a short intro cinematic. After that, your choices are remembered.
The chapters we've designed
Each World of Warcraft zone is its own downloadable campaign (.w3n) made up of several chapters. The first one — the Human campaign in Elwynn Forest — is fully laid out:
Human — Elwynn Forest
  • Prelude: A Call to Arms (intro cinematic)
  • Chapter 1 — Shadow of Northshire (+ Echo Ridge Mine) ✅ current build
  • Chapter 2 — Goldshire (+ Fargodeep Mine)
  • Chapter 3 — The Eastbank Road (+ Jasperlode Mine)
  • Chapter 4 — Eastvale Logging Camp
  • Chapter 5 — Westbrook
  • Chapter 6 — Brackwell Pumpkin Patch
  • Epilogue: Onward to Westfall (closing cinematic)
From there the series grows across the races, zone by zone. The planned release order weaves the factions together — for example:
  1. Human — Elwynn Forest ✅ (current build)
  2. Orc — Durotar
  3. Human — Westfall
  4. Dwarf — Dun Morogh
  5. ...and onward through every race's starting lands and beyond.
These designs are how we plan to build it — and that's the direction we'll follow unless a technical hurdle forces a change along the way.
Chapter 1 — "Shadow of Northshire" (the first story)
A quiet morning in Elwynn Forest. The abbey bell rings, birds sing... but there's tension at the borders. Marshal McBride sends you, a new recruit, to face three growing threats:
  • Echo Ridge Mine to the north — overrun by candle-headed kobolds who've shut down the abbey's mine. Clear the tunnels and put down their foreman.
  • The Defias camp to the east — an infiltration cell led by Garrick Padfoot. Break their patrols and take him down. The letter he carries hints at something far bigger brewing in Westfall...
  • The western meadow — wolves have wandered too close to the village; an optional hunt and a leatherworker's request.
It's the real Vanilla Northshire experience — A Threat Within, Wolves Across the Border, Eagan Peltskinner, the Garrick Padfoot hunt — woven into WC3 with a squad and a boss fight, ending with the road to Goldshire opening.
What's done so far
  • 300+ custom assets adapted from WoW — the cast, the enemies, the buildings, and a deep doodad library (trees, props, mining gear, flora) to dress Elwynn.
  • A complete WoW → WC3 pipeline and a YAML-driven map builder, plus a quest / cinematic / dialogue framework and the localization system.
  • A custom asset "Studio" for previewing and preparing models.
The cast & the foes — a few work-in-progress models below: Northshire Abbey, Marshal McBride, Deputy Willem, Brother Sammuel, Priestess Anetta and Brother Cyrus (your allies & mentors), then Garrick Padfoot, a Defias thug and a candle-headed kobold (your enemies).
Please note these are Alpha models, still being developed and polished. The Elwynn Forest Timber Wolf and Mangy Wolf, for example, are creatures we're actively refining right now.
And a first glimpse of the world itself — the last two shots show the Elwynn Forest terrain coming together (early work in progress).
This is a non-commercial fan project; all original art belongs to Blizzard. I'd love your thoughts — and which zone or moment you'd most want to see. 🙂
