Warcraft 3 Map Creating

Hello there Hive community.
I am here to ask if there is any poin in making custom War3 maps, I mean, they are played? How much? Which type? Speaking in general.
I want to start creating some custom maps, fun ones not TDs or Survival or such stuff. I want to make a new and better map than Monolith and create a nice version of Farmer vs Hunter and start my project if I can cuz I am a beginner and I don't know to create scripts ( or how are they called those things that respawn creeps in DotA for example ) " Zombie Civil War "

Warcraft 3 is played frequently and maps are still played (even old ones), but most of them are private plays.
It's not wise to start with a hard project, start with ones you can handle.
