JALM
(Just Another Loap Map)

This is about the same project as the one in this Idea Factory thread.
---
Intro
I'm working on a map where you play as a person who lives in a city, kinda like Loap (No, I didn't just open a Loap map and work from there. I made a new city and everything), but with more detail and cooler/better features. The latest version is attached to this post.
---
Features
Here is a list of features in the latest version.

  1. Other players cannot pick up your items when you drop them, unless you use "Unclaim Item"
  2. Every street is named. Doesn't really matter now though as you cannot yet get a cell phone
  3. Any items you collect, cannot be picked up by players unless you use an ability that allows the item to be picked up by any player.
  4. After you buy a house, you can go to different stores and buy or build walls, furniture, etc. to place in your house.
  5. You can open your own stores.
  6. Cars run on gas. You can go to a gas station and buy more gas. Different cars hold more/less gas.
  7. You need to be in your car to drive it. Locking the car doors will greatly decrease the chance of having your car stolen. Driving on terrain other than roads will decrease/increase speed depending on your vehicle.
  8. You can get a job
  9. You can put money in the bank and withdraw it via ATM machines.
---
Ideas
Here's a little list of ideas (And the person who came up with it) for the map that I plan on adding eventually.
  1. Weather effects. Lightning strikes deal massive damage, rain turns dirt into mud, etc. -Zinive
  2. Theater. Watch movies. -Zinive
  3. Radio. Listen to different Warcraft songs. -Zinive
  4. 480x480 - Steel_Stallion
  5. More than 1 city -Steel_Stallion
  6. Once a player buys a certain tech, his boat can use the fishing ability.
---
Screenshots
The current minimap. The house looking icons are buildings/plots of land that you can buy. The gold mine icons are stores.
Graffiti.
McGrub is the McDonalds of the map.
The runway at the airport.
One of the city's parks.
The other park.
A parking lot.
The side of a public swimming pool.
A class for not so smart people.
A street in the ghetto.
Gameplay shots:
Delivering letters as the mailman.
The postmaster isn't to happy that you quit.

Project Forum
JALM has a forum, which can be found at http://w3life.vndv.com. Please show your support for the project by signing up on the forums. There's a thread there which is the first thing I update, and it contains all of the information here and more, including a daily progress log and the status of the above features.
---
Thanks for reading this. If you have any ideas or whatever, post here, or better yet, at the project forums.

If done right, RL maps can be alright... just make sure you do it right.

How about a police system that doesn't involve just shooting pickpockets, maybe if you see someone breaking a law (purse-snatching, shop lifting, doing drugs, mugging, etc.) you have to capture them unharmed and take them to the station. If you harm or kill them you could get fined, have your license revoked or even be fired/arrested.

Likewise, if you're witnessed committing a crime by a citizen or police officer, depending on the severity of the crime you could be ticketed, fined, arrested, etc. Except give people a chance to get away or resist arrest; simply being teleported to the station would be kind of un-fun, although resisting arrest could make your situation worse. Lastly, let people try to break out of prison assisted by NPCs (presumably other prisoners or even other players).

Just my 2 copper, although that may be a bit much.

gohan43, Your gas goes down VERY slowly, and it's extremely cheap to fill up. And you can even turn your car off so you don't waste gas.

how much of the map is done anyway? -> As I said in the first post, there is an official website for the project. And on the forums, there is a thread that contains all the info here and more. Here's the link: Super Thread.

I'll post some screenshots either tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT -> Added screenshots.
